Frozen driver side window

The other night I found that my driver side window was frozen. Rather irritating as I needed to pay my way out of an airport parking lot.

After 20mins driving with full heat on it had thawd out.

No obvious ice or snow on the outside and only about -2C.

Anyone else seen this?

Well, I washed my car yesterday, and tomorrow afternoon, when I get sober after lutefisk and aquavit I will give it a try. Expecting -5°C tomorrow.

FWH, you may have been lucky. The same thing happened to my Mazda MX6, it stripped the gears on the drive motor, resulting in a very expensive replacement drive mechanism.

By frozen do you mean it wont wind up and down ? even after scraping the frost off ?

I've had it too on one of my other cars. Very annoying, you feel as if you want to just keep your finger on the button, but common sense tells you it's not a good idea.

Actaully, there was very little frost at all on this occaison, but the little there was was scraped off.

The window moved a few mm, the inside of the door moved sideways like it does, but then it stopped.

Not had any problems with any other car at -2.
At -30 things start to happen though with most cars...

I had to move my car last night and the door was slightly stuck between the rubber seal and the body of the car. Granted it wasn't as bad a my Mums car which she had been washing a few hours earlier none of the doors would open, but seen as I hadn't been washing my car I was a bit stunned at the time

I had a lot of trouble with this on a Mazda 626 I once had.
The rubber seals had to be kept well lubricated.

Not seen any of this on the Civic yet.

On another point, how well does the heated back window work? Went out in my car this morning (no sticking door this time - still the same on my Mum's car tho lol!) and by the time I got to the end of the street it had managed to melt the ice! I am rather impressed with this, much much better than my last car thats for sure!

I was also a bit wary about putting my window down, but it went down without a issue, that was until some ice fell in the door, luckily it didn't hit the seats

Many moons ago I had an old escort, when it was freezing the central locking would freeze completely but for some reason the boot always remained un-affected.

I was doing shift work at Heathrow at the time an was heavily pregnant, I used to have climb in to the boot of the car and over the rear seats to get to the drivers seat at 4.30 in the morning lol

Nope, can't agree with that one. My Min took bloody ages, i'd usually be in town before it cleared anything and the BM's in the household without rear wipers also take donkeys, so much so that you defo have to scrape them before a journey. Didn't with the Civic, just another thing to rub my Mum up the wrong way when she complains about her car lol!

-30degC FWH, Wow. The coldest we have had is -20deg C @ 10 years ago and all the pipes froze !

As I am sure everyone has noticed , the bottom part of the rear window doesn't have a heated element. A bit of an oversight by Honda again. I dont bother with the rear window when its misted / frozen up now - I just use the mirrors which are excellent fortunately.

We don“t have our pipes on the outside of our houses..

30 is cold. Messes up a lot of cars. You really need a preheater at that point. Othersie you have to go out and start the car a regular intervals so it doesn“t get really cold.

Once I had a ignition control unit fail at that temperature, not fun repairing a car outside at that temperature I can tell you!

I used to have a friend who was a bus driver in East Kilbride, which is at quite a high elevation to the South of Glasgow.
During the winter, the buses were left idling all night in the depot yard to make sure they didn't freeze up.The bus engines were, basically, never shut off from about November through to March or April.
At least it meant they were nice and warm for the early morning passengers too.

Not sure if they would do that now with diesel costing £1.10 a litre
