Had to have AA round to my house

Hello all, bought my Civic 1.8 es last march and until last sunday I had not had any trouble, until last sunday.

I opened my garage door and used the key transmitter to unlock it, the car unlocked but no flashing indicators. I got in and put the key in the ignition and turned on no illuminated dash apart from the blue 0 in the speedo, warning lights came on for Power Steering failure airbag failure and 2 others which I have forgotten, chancing it I pushed the starter and she fired up first go as usual. I then backed out of my garage and just went to top of road speedo was stuck on 0 all the other lights were off apart from the 4 warning lights. I put the car back on my drive and called Hondacare who were great, within an hour AA arrived he disconnected the battery then touched the 2 leads together, then left it alone for 2 minutes, then reconnected the terminals to the battery the problem was cured. He could not diagnose the problem apart from saying he was sure it was with the computer.
I have spoken to my dealer ( Pennine ) Ashton and they have told me they have not heard of this fault before. And if I take my car in the can hook it up to some gadget that will tell them what was wrong,I have not had the time to take it back yet. The car is working fine at the moment.

I was wondering if anyone esle has had this problem ? I was disappointed as my previous hondas ( 9 ) of them have been fault free.

In IT terms this is called a "cold reboot".
When it's a PC , people accept 3 or 4 reboots a day, for a car it's a bit different, and rightly so.
Thank god our civics do not run on MS Windblows!

haha - Koen - In response to your post - check this!

At a recent COMDEX, Bill Gates compared the computer industry to the automobile industry and stated: 'If GM kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would be driving $25 cars that got 1000 miles to the gallon.'
A slightly aggrieved General Motors immediately issued a press release stating: 'If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:
  • For no reason whatsoever your car would crash twice a day.
  • Every time they repainted the lines on the road, you would have to buy a new car.
  • Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason, and you would just accept this, restart and drive on.
  • Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to start, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.
  • Only one person at a time could use the car, unless you bought "Car95---or "CarNT". But then you would have to buy more seats.
  • Apple would make a car that was powered by the sun, reliable, five times as fast, and twice as easy to drive, but would only run on 5% of the roads.
  • The oil, water temperature and alternator warning lights would be replaced by a single "general car default' warning light.
  • New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt.
  • The airbag system would say "Are you sure?" before deploying.
  • Occasionally for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turn the key, and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
  • GM would require all car buyers to also purchase a deluxe set of Rand McNally road maps (now a GM subsidiary), even though they neither need them nor want them. Attempting to delete this option would immediately cause the car's performance to diminish by 50% or more. Moreover, GM would become a target for investigation by the Justice Department.
  • Every time GM introduced a new model, car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
  • You'd press the "Start" button to shut off the engine.

Well, to be honest, my first time in a Civic I really tried that last one.
It actually works in a Mégane!

I went out in the demonstrator for the first time on my own, and for a few seconds wondered why the damn thing wouldn't start when I turned the key!!
