It was a very big lump of something that hit the screen at 70mph.
It would of cracked any screen.

Do we get to know what 'something' was? Was it animal, vegitable or mineral?

Must have given you one heck of a scare, though. Where did it hit on the screen?

I've had that - years ago - large stone - came straight through the windscreen of a mini and hit me in the chest - enough to 'hurt' but not 'harm' luckily, and followed by a large quantity of flying glass granules from the old type screens, again luckily without harm.

Had the stone got me in the face - it might have been a very different story!

I collided with a pidgeon once, and when I looked in the rear-view mirror, it looked like it was snowing. The screen didn't

break., but it didn't half make me jump.

That could have been a lot worse.

Sounds like a crack was a luck escape!!

Glad to hear you're OK Tomthumb.

Any problems getting the new windscreen ? In Test Drive magazine their long-termer has the drivers window broken as someone tried to pinch the sat nav unit (which was hidden somewhere but presumably the tell tale signs on the window sunction cup on the windscreen) and they mentioned delays in getting the window in.

I had a mate once hit a Pigeon, on his Fireblade, hit him in the chest, apparantly he saw it coming for him and decided to sit up a bit. Fortunately he kept hold of the bike, but when he got to the pub he was covered in pigeon guts, **** and feathers. He reckons the only thing that stopped it being more serious was a couple of magazine he had zipped into his leathers to bring over with him.

That was a really unpleasent story! That's enough to make many people not want to take up riding!

I hit a pidgeon a couple of week ago on my Civic. Doing 50 - 55mph and the bird came out of a hedgrow, then turned to try and and get away from me. I hit his bottom at a closing speed of at least 30mph. Funny thing is, it did not make a sound when it hit. I looked in my mirror to see it come down hard onto the wing in the middle of rear screen. From there, it shot straight back, tumbling in the air, feathers everywhere, straight into a Golf. It hit his A-pillar, and it made him jump!
He nearly ended up the hedges. Strangly, I looked back a few seconds later, and he was laughing and pointing at my car, explaining to his wife the dynamics of the pidgeon.

Commiserations Tomthumb - I too have a windscreen crack, so I would be grateful if you could pass on the eventual cost of replacement!

I'll steel myself for the response...

Think I'll get my windscreen replaced; not because it's damaged BUT I'VE JUST SPENT 30 MINUTES TRYING TO CLEAN THE INSIDE OF IT The window slopes so much that you need to be a contortionist; my back aches more than polishing the whole car I've tried 4 different well known window cleaners, a leather, 'special' window cloths, including microfibre and it's STILL showing smears .......and can ANYBODY get down to the botton 3 inches without scraping off a layer of skin on the top of the facia

I have a new screen with no cracks. It took them about 40 minutes to fit.
The only sticker I have on my screen now is the tax disc.

Sorry I forgot to ask how much it would be without the insurance.
