Cigarette lighter socket coming out...?

I recently invested in a Tomtom and the last time I used it I pulled my power cable from out of the power socket and the whole thing came out of the hole! The wires still appear to be attached and it still powers my Tomtom if I push it in and pull it out carefully, but can this be fixed with a simple bit of superglue or should I be more careful?

I'd go to the dealer this is a known problem on some of the earlier model civ's. Just be careful you don't get a shock . It may well be fixed free as a recall/notice.

Mine's the same. I don't use the cigarette lighter socket for anything so it's not a major problem, but i will mention it to the dealer at the next service.

My dealer said I can get it replaced (for an identical piece of sh*t) so I preferred to fix it with "super glue" - no problems 1 year later now
(warning: don't use too much glue or you will damage the surrounding plastic, 2,3 drops will do)

It's a common problem, and not helped by the TomTom power socket being quite a tight fit in the cigarette lighter socket.

I usually try and press down on the edges of the lighter socket with one hand while unplugging the TomTom - that usually works.

I just got the pliers on the tom tom plug and bent the spring clips in a bit so its not so tight, did the same with my mobile charger to, they come out fine now and leave the socket behind as they should

It shouldn't pop completely out because there is a small 'fin' on the underside plastic body of the lighter to stop this.

It is a very loose fit though as the 2 underneath 'clips' only just cover the width of the hole so it easily pops out.

I doubt you will have any electrical problems as a result.

Having ventured underneath, if I had a TT or a gadget that needed repeated connection I would be wiring in a third party socket somewhere else more convenient.

Alternatively there must be another lighter model that could replace the Honda one that fixes more firmly with a proper screw thread?

The wiring is very simple though, just 2 black wires with the positive having a wide white tracer to identify it.

I fitted a slave 12v socket behind the central console using wires from the existing 12v socket. My GPS wiring is then left connected.
