I have said somewhere else on these forums that I think customer service in the UK is falling and I don't know why, especially in an age where information is easily passed between people via the internet.
Actually you are spot on, it's the dealers I have the biggest problem with.

I suppose it's symptomatic of British society and it's apathy towards everything!

I know alot of the new forum members are still in their 'honeymoon' period, but after a year or so of putting up with crappy British build quality and constant visits to the dealers, I'm certain they will start to see where alot us are coming from.

No, I seriously love my car, she is great to drive, but the build quality lets her down so much.

I agree - I will be very sad to see mine go but patience is wearing thin.

HUK are not great at repying to emails, letters or telephone calls I think anyone with problems really needs to rely on a great dealership for help

I actually don't think any company is very good at replying to emails. And, even when you do get a response it is usually a standard reply email not answering your questions at all.

In my view, companies need to adjust their conventional view on Customer Service and being it up to the modern day. The internet has changed the way we view products, the way we learn about products and the way we can now communicate with others who have the same product. Companies are being a little slow in reacting to this rise in consumer awareness and in the time of the 'computer age' are shocked that they actually need 'people' to man the phones, computers etc. A computer can't do everything!

For the consumer this issue will just continue to escalate due to the need for companies to reduce costs to increase profits and therefore keeping shareholders happy. It is a fine balancing act that has not been found yet and that is why you find a lot of unhappy people complaining about the large companies.

Thought I'd throw my comments in too...

Obviously quite a few forum members are having issues with the build quality - myself included. My car is 2 months old now and has the odd rattle and squeak, which is annoying. I have to say at this point that this is my first ever new car, so not really sure what to expect - I mean, would any new car have some element of initial problems to resolve?

However, I absolutely love everything else about my car - how it looks in & out, how it drives, the features it has - and wouldn't change it for anything in the same class at the moment. I'm hoping my dealer (who were brilliant when I went through the process of buying the car), will be able to rectify these issues and I can get on with enjoying this machine.

Also, weren't the past few generations of Civic also built in Swindon? Did any of these have similar build quality issues?

If my memory serves me correct the Jaz/Fit was primarily built in Japan. If not all. This is the first time Honda outsourced the civic to Swindon. Now, I'm not saying that all the problems is because of that. I just think that the Quality Control was up to **** in Swindon. Somewhere someone didn't care and now they are paying for it.

But if you didn't buy the civic, what would you have bought? Everything else looks so dam boring.

No car is perfect, especially not the civic, but i will probably never drive something else than a Honda. It's something different. it really escapes the ordinary and thats what i bought.

I can't wait for the next civic!! Will be interesting to see how they can top this design.
Sorry, LuCiUs but your way off.

1. Jazz used to be built in Japan but now comes form China as well.
2. Honda have been building the 5 door Civic in Swindon since 1994 in fact they have never built one for Europe anywhere else - unless you count the Concerto built in Longbridge! Japan have only made a 5 dr Civic once - 2001 Civic and it was for domestic sales only.
3. They give one hell of a dam about quality in Swindon, the plants compete with each other and on comparable models ie CRV for 3 generations Swindon has been out performing Japan and the US on a regular basis.

Actually the main reason for all the problems is, as with every other OEM, when they make a radical change and employ so many new technologies, you get more than your fair share of problems. Unfortunately sites like this give a consentration of the -ve's but even here if you did a survey 'Would you buy another Honda Civic from Swindon' you would still get more say Yes than No

Oh yeah - they also used more European suppliers and European idea than ever before ...................

I also have Civic 6th gen ('97) which is built in Japan (chasis number starts with JHM...).
Also, 7th gen Civic sold here are also from Japan.

In that case it must be a 3 door hatch or 4 door sallon. We called it the bug-eye as it was the first of the huge polycarb headlamps. The 5 door was built in the UK only, it was the sister to the Rover 400. The only exception to my earlier post, I now recall, was the 2001 civic where a small volume of 5drs were brought from Japan to support the launch but only for the first few months. Same applies to 7th gen 4 door built in Japan but 3dr & 5 dr are Swindon only. I did specifically refer to 5 door.

...

My apologies for not knowing the detailed history of Honda built cars. But the point still stands. The build quality of the car as well as some interior trim is crap. And if they did enough testing they would have noticed.

Now the European version looks way different from the US version. Maybe we should find out where the US version was built and if they also have the built quality issues.

And the technologies in the Civic is nothing new. So, no excuse there.

...Where Civics were built

Hey guys...found this link on the net. May shed some light of where all the civics were built prior to Swindon.

List of Honda assembly plants - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Think they should sell the new civic as a kit that you can built in your garage. Won't have built quality issues then

I felt the same when my car was two months old, but after almost two years of constant problems enough is enough, I test drove a Focus last weekend (yes I know in the looks department it is way off the civic and yes I now lots of you will shout Boring etc etc etc) but it drove like a dream, perfect smooth gear change, no where near as firm or noisey as my civic (and it had lowered suspension and 17inch alloys) and it had much less road noise.

The civic drives well and looks amazing but when it feels like your second car is a Honda Jazz and your own car comes back and develops the same or yet another problem a day or two later you do start to think is it worth the hassle just for the looks!

Yes, my old Civic is a 3dr.

However, as I'm aware all Civic's sold in Croatia were build in Japan (upto 8th gen).
Cannot vouch for rest of Europe though.

Was this the new model, Topcat? I'll be trying one when the DSG-style auto is introduced in March.
