I dont see how anyone can say that to have a dashboard made out of a material that needs specialist care is not poor quality materials, I dare any one of you to go an clean your dash normally as you would any other car and not scratch it.

Not sure what you are referring to on weak audio, but I have had two civics now both with poor reception.

Again anyone that tries to say the visibility is not bad is fooling themselves, why do you think the car has been given two massive mirrors, they are not there for the decor. Dark night, Pouring rain, no wiper - poor visibility but then we all knew that before buying so that can not be used against the car.

I can think of many more to add to the against list but you are right in saying that;

The engines are great and the styling is far from boring although not to everyones taste.

However I dont believe the Civic holds its value anymore than another make, private sale maybe, part ex definately not.
I clean my dashboard quite often and i have not scratched it.

No problems with visibility at all and no im not fooling myself.

What method do you use to clean it, TypeS?

Spray? Micro? Brush?

I called my local dealer last week to book my first service. They asked if there were any problems I was aware of, so I thought I'd chance it and mention the dash.

The guy put me on hold for 30 secs and came back saying that they'd received a statement from Honda saying that all dealers are not to replace the glossy dash under warranty if it's a victim of the fine scratching issue. Apparently this is because pure owner maintenance....!!!!

It's probably a dealer fob-off, but it would be interesting to know if Honda are actually now refusing dash warranty replacements...

Wouldnt surprise me!

Just goes to prove I was right that the dashboard is fragile as HUK have had many complaints about it (a reliable piece of info I have been given).

And for the record Type S Bournemouth I didnt scratch mine either but the repair garage that did my accident repair did and they said it was absolutely ridiculous that the dashboard was so fragile when all they did was clean it as they would any other car. As a result they replaced it and I got the Type R one fitted and the clear rev counter bit was replaced under warranty - why would HUK agree to have replaced it if they felt it was not down to poor materials?

...sorry guys

it doesn't look like I'm going to get hold of that email address. I had a meeting scheduled with my Dealers' Manager but he didn't pitch. So, after apologizing to be over the phone he told me that he will come to me. I haven't heard from him since.

typical!

So now I'm switching Dealers. The other branch is 4 times as far, but that's ok. Will see how it goes. Already convinced a Honda Jazz buyer to go to the other branch.

SO THERE! In your Face!

.....

ok,

just went to the new Dealer to get some prices for the Jazz. Thought I'd pop in at the Service manager. What an arrogant basta$d. He told me that he knows of absolutely no problems with the civic; nothing at all. When I mentioned the website he just rolled his eyes. What a dick. But through the whole conversation i could see that he really doesn't give a rats ass what I'm saying.

But one thing stuck with me that he said. He told me that when Honda was small, I was one of 5 people with a complaint. Then I mattered. But now I'm one of 500 people which makes them don't give a sh&t.

And i think thats just it. We all are the 1 in 500's. Which mean what ever we say really doesn't matter to them. So I've decided to drop the whole thing. Just accept the car for what it is. Go to the dealer just for services. And if they don't repair something i mentioned, well tough. I'm sick of fighting with them.

Honda, you made a great car. But the dealers can come lick one of my balls!

Well, the Civic might be badly built, but how many people have had their cars die on them?

My work mate picked up a brand new Mondeo yesterday. He got 50 miles and the clutch went out (hydraulic fluid all over the place).

I would get this translated into Japanese and send it to Honda HQ, if I remember the dealers are Honda employees, and they clearly have one too many
With the licking I woud be cautious, you don't want your balls to fall off do you?

Shame about your dealer however I must say that my dealer Geo Collins at Hailsham is brilliant, nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff there. Their pre sales service is great as is their post sales service and it`s a real friendly family type business and if that is`nt enough I have also got Bexhill Motors not far from me who give great service too.

All I can say is Honda is fortunate to have 2 great dealers in this area and so am I

I think that the problem is with the larger based dealers who employ staff who really do not care. The smaller dealers want to keep your business so have more to loose, so they try harder!

Actually they are contractors / francises but makes no difference, the service should not be poor. A few years back Honda canned something like half it's dealers in Germany as they we performing well below par. Cost then a lot of market share hastles etc but I guess their immage mattered. As to you suggestion then this should get you somewhere close.

I can't quarantee it's accuracy but give it a go. Else you can re-make your own at AltaVista - Babel Fish Translation
