What I said was taken completely the wrong way.
What I meant by spoiling the forum is the way some members are generalizing all civics to be of poor quality etc when that just is not true. Plus I never said that problems could not be talked about on here and dont understand how that came about. |

I have never read a post by any one person on this forum saying that "ALL" civics are bad.
Although I have read plenty of times members of this forum saying that most people go looking for a forum like this when they have a problem - enough said !!! |

The one thing this and other forums enable us to do is to go into car purchasing with our eyes wide open. We have read about potential problems and we can then decide what to do, so reporting problems on a site like this is very informative and productive. |

And then shoot the messenger down by accusing them of moaning and insinuating that they are insulting all civics. |

I do like this site.
I do like the little bit of banter on here, it keeps the blood running. I do like my Spaceship. I would not change it for anything on the road, .....if an Audi R8 comes along Millie would have to park along side tho'! Sure enough Millie has given me problems with her battery and now with the window, but I still reckon this motor is a dream. I am proud to drive her around, the m.p.g. is great, the performace is great, and I'm still getting those admiring glances. ......and that is what I wanted in the first place ......and if my dealer doesn't want to talk to me, which isn't the case for me, I'd throw the 'Sales of Goods' act at him! "Just had a physical for some life insurance, They only offered me fire and theft!" Last edited by Charles_Harding; 20th January 2008 at 15:38. |

There are some things common to ALL current Civics, upon which owners would surely agree:
The harsh, crude ride. The poor quality materials. The weak audio offering. The restricted visibility. On the other hand: The engines are exceptional. The styling is unusual and exciting. The residuals appear to be good. I suppose you takes yer choice. Pay another couple of thou and get the sophistication and performance of an Audi. Or get the handling refinement of a Focus and lose out on residuals. Last edited by Honcho; 20th January 2008 at 14:55. |

I have no problem at all with visibility and can park it to the inch and it`s fine on the road with the benefit of it`s excellent door mirrors I have no poor quality materials compared to most cars The audio is fine for me in all respects in a car, if I want higher quality or be deafened I would use my large system at home The ride could be improved of that there is no doubt but it is not harsh or crude. Overall it is a fine car, a fine design, the later production cars generally showing better assembly standards and to top it all it`s fun and a pleasure to drive. |

Honcho I have to agree The ride in mine has become increasingly hard and I think that is probably due to the rumblings and knockings going on - the shocks are not doing their job properly. I dont see how anyone can say that to have a dashboard made out of a material that needs specialist care is not poor quality materials, I dare any one of you to go an clean your dash normally as you would any other car and not scratch it. Not sure what you are referring to on weak audio, but I have had two civics now both with poor reception. Again anyone that tries to say the visibility is not bad is fooling themselves, why do you think the car has been given two massive mirrors, they are not there for the decor. Dark night, Pouring rain, no wiper - poor visibility but then we all knew that before buying so that can not be used against the car. I can think of many more to add to the against list but you are right in saying that; The engines are great and the styling is far from boring although not to everyones taste. However I dont believe the Civic holds its value anymore than another make, private sale maybe, part ex definately not. |

I had this with my car, even worse it "nose-dived" to the ground at every little road imperfection, got my struts replaced with an "updated" version (iCTDI, old ones with yellow bump stops, new with white) and now absolutely no problem with that. There was a servicing action with the iCTDI (for other versions I don't know) and for the earliest cars (2006) the whole struts were replaced, for newer ones only the bump stops. Maybe your car too needs this?

Many of the complaints on the forum refer to poor build quality. However, I have the 1.8 saloon and must say the build quality is excellent. That said I also realise that the model costs 4000 Euro more than the hatchback versions. Things like the door padding are softer and there is an air of comfort right through the car. You also get a 6 CD changer built into the dash of the car etc.
There is no doubt that the saloon is a more conservative style both inside and out but nevertheless still has more character than most of the other saloons out there but still has the usefullness of the 1.8 vtec engine. In Ireland Honda are renowned for good build quality. I also know people who own Toyota's and believe it or not the build quality of the newer Toyota models has also been questioned and even the reliability! The Golf are also experiencing problems with regards gearbox and clutch replacements. Nevertheless, if people are not happy with their product they have every right to complain. After all we have all paid a lot of money for it and want to be happy with our investment. |

Today I had the pleasure of driving on one of the worst roads in my life. it had more holes than surface. The civic held up well and I didn't hear any squeaks, noises or anything, so I am happy. The audio system is good in my opinion. |

Well to those who have not had any problems then I'm glad for you & I hope that you never have any!!! BUT don't slag people off who have had & are having continuing problems, as it's forums like this where we can get it off our chests & to inform other Civic owners what to watch out for!!! Hope you only have to keep taking your car to the stealers for servicing!!!

Very pleased for you. All my Accords have been Japanese built, like your Civic saloon, and I can say the same for the build quality. |
