I wonder if they can spare 30 grams of aluminium for the next version, this is another case of cost controlling gone mad

This is an area that really needs watching for corrosion. Needs Waxoyl....or...... !!!Would appreciate comments from others on what they find ! Looks horrible when it goes rusty.

Do the petrol Civics have a main exhaust that points down just behind the bumper and the bits to the back just 'extras' like in the CTDi?

the cdti has exhausts coming out in the triangles so are still part of the exhaust. i think the 1.4 has the exhaust coming out behind the bumper not the cdti! you have a cdti so i thought you would know?????

Although this earlier thread shows that the exhaust on the diesel splits in two, before the triangle with the main exhaust pipe pointing downwards under the bumper.

@alanwalne - no, the 1.8 petrol exhaust just goes straight out through the triangles.

If you look underneath the bumper, there are also downfacing pipes behind the bumper

The petrol exhaust comes through the triangles........diesels are not allowed to......must exhaust downwards to break particulates onto the ground ! Triangles are just for show on the diesels !!

Actually, some fumes are led out the triangle on the diesel.

say cheese

Has anyone else found the same problem.? It goes in tomorrow to be "photographed" and was hoping for some further evidence just in case, even though I do not think there will be a problem. After a fairly brisk ride never feels even warm, but no surprise as 90% of exhaust not emitted from here.

But not fully, therefore they don't heat up as much.

Indeed, also on mine - and my particle filter is an aftermarket one (TwinTec) so it is not a version issue. It is possible that the diesel is less prone to corrosion because the fumes are not acidic

Took car to be photographed. Service manager did not think Honda would replace as not as bad on their photo as on mine and anyway who would see/look there!!! Asked to see the photo they had taken, manager went into service area, came back and said the man who took it must have gone out....so sorry, not available...
However, their photo will be sent to Honda and I will be contacted with their reply early next week.
Your comments please......

I guess the parts in discussion are not a part of the exhaust system, they belong to the.. hm... bumper maybe? Anyway this is a bit strange to me, I have checked mine and not a bit of rust to be seen

Nor me

I'm begining to think that the actual part isn't rusting but whatever it's coated with ?

Give it a good clean and it may rub off

I would be very wary of this, the man had gone out!! So he took the photo with him did he? And he thinks HUK will say no as the their photo doesnt make it look as bad as it does on your photo hmmmmm. Nonetheless the rust is still there.

Some dealers just blatantly do not want to help their customers when I have had have photos sent to HUK (and believe me there have been many of them) my dealers have asked me to take the photos as the problem shows up better so that is a complete reverse approach of your dealers.

Wait to see the outcome and if it is not good news then write to HUK with your own photo and ask them why they feel that the rust is acceptable. Good Luck.

Oh and eyemdee - thanks for that
