If they do come back with a No, I'd just get myself down to the showroom and start being very vocal about the issue... they'll not want any possible customers hearing about it. Rust like that on a car which isn't even 2 year old just isn't acceptable!! |

UPDATE 2 Unhappy!!
Replacement has been turned down by Honda
However, the service manager is talking to customer services on my behalf and will let me know the outcome later in the week. Looks like I might have to live with it but do not see why I should.... Such a shame...... Will keep you posted..... |

Disapointing result.
Probably find that it is not covered under the body corrosion warranty as it's not parts of the body shell but part of the exhaust. The exhaust may be S/S but S/S still rusts just much slower. Also the welds are not S/S necessarily - you worst rust seems to be a weld point. Exhaust warranty is I think just for functional failure ie rust through, surface corrosion such as yours would not be a functional problem. That's probably their get out. The plate at the back with the large darker rust is part of the exhaust however there is edge corrosion on the black innner of the triangle too. That is not part of the exhaust but part of the bumper and thus arguably part of the body, and lets face it when that rusts through everyone will be able to see the rust on your Civic. Honda are very sensitive about rust after the problems with mark 1 & 2 Civic's. So don't give up - send you pics directly to Honda Customer Services and complain about your evasive dealer. Good luck. |

A prospective buyer or a garage salesman if you said you wanted to part exchange your car....... I would be tempted to put a sign in the back window, highlighting the problem with the rusty exhaust and the garage's response. Leave it parked on the forecourt on Saturday morning..... Shouldn't put off any buyers, should it? After all, it's only £18k plus for a car that will start to rust within 18 months.... Well done, Honda. Last edited by Jobo; 22nd January 2008 at 17:29. |

Seeing as the triangular trims are a key part of the design and are mainly asthetic, Honda should replace them under warrenty - they are not a consumable part like the rest of the exhaust.
Yet another bit of penny pinching by Honda and another reason for me to never buy another Honda - their attitude towards customers stinks! |

Latest update 28/1/08
After taking to the dealer to be photographed and waiting while they contacted Honda warranty & customer services on my behalf, all replies are "Honda will not pay" for replacement.
Service manager suggests I contact Honda Customer services direct as often the customer has more clout than the dealer!!! Although no one else has shown the same problem (as far as I know), my next door neighbour saw a worse one than mine on the Wirral this weekend!!! Suggestions. |

Mine is 4 months old and starting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to be asking the dealer next time i'm in. Mine is washed and dried regualrly (even down to using a cotton bud in the exhaust to clean it, and coat it).

edit: strange though, I hardly wash mine and the Germans salt their roads as if they were herrings, and no spot of rust _anywhere_ |

It is only light 'rust' (discolouration, I think the WD40 removed most of it , but still it shouldn't happen, if I can get some photo's in the light I'll try, it's not 100% clean at the mo' as I've just done about 150miles in it to my other home and back).
The cotton bud gets in deep down to apply a good layer of wd40 to the back, it is tedious and only done every once in a while. Tom Edit, have checked and what appeared to be rust is only a light surface rust and has come off easily with WD40, it is nowhere as bad as yours, I have cleaned it once more and applied alloy wheel seal over the area, hopefully this should stop it, does anyone else coat their triangles?? Did you send it registered, always do that as they have to sign for it and it guarantees they've got it, other send another, become a nuisance
