Bad news travels further?
I am very close to signing up to contract hire a new 2.2 SE for three years. I will be getting a service deal along with it so I won't have to worry about extra costs over the monthly rate. What does worry me however is the constant problems I read about: flat batteries, suspect suspension knocking, all sorts of other things.
What I'm trying to find out is whether these cars are on the whole a reliable vehicle and is it that just bad news gets reported by users, or are there a sizeable number of quality issues which are far greater than most models. I need to be able to get in the car and drive it without wondering whether it will start today. If I don't get to work, I don't get paid, simple as that. Have any users out there who have bought more recent models also experienced the same sorts of problems or do they seem to be more related to the cars built in the first year? Will the Civic be as reliable as my last two cars, one of which was French and never missed a beat in 75,000 miles!! |

Hi,
I have had my 1.8 EX for about 5 weeks now and have not had one problem with it. Apart from that fuel light keeps coming on and it gets dirty. |

Hey Simon,
We have had our Civic for just under 11 months no problems - not even a paint chip a lot of the problems seem to be with the early cars though there is still the odd one or two bad car being built no worse than the competition tho |

Brods the bottom part of your reply was enough; " lot of the problems seem to be with the early cars though there is still the odd one or two bad car being built no worse than the competition tho" Why do you constantly have to keep reminding everyone that your car is perfect althoug how you have escaped a paint chip is beyond me if it is used on a daily basis, they must have really broke the mould when they made your car!! would it have got on your nerves if I started every post with; "I had my car for almost two years, the last one was a replacement both civics spent all their time at the dealers having the same faults fixed over and over again" Yes it would have got on your nerves as it would have been a pointless comment to make over and over again and would have irritated all those that haven't had many or any issues, just as I am sure your constant reminder irritates those with problems. |

I think the main problems that have been experienced are mainly by the earlier cars as I`m afraid is normally the case with any make. The moral I learned many cars ago was never buy a new model for at least a year into production giving time for the bugs to be ironed out. If you want to enjoy motoring again then join the spaceship club and you will love your Civic Good luck and enjoy it |

Stop upsetting TC although I`ve got to say my one is wonderful too (sorry TC) as you say it is mainly the early cars that have had most of the problems not that it`s any consolation to those that have suffered problems

Hi, I have a mid 2006 car and it has been very good so far apart from the rear road springs fitted incorrectly and the front bump stops coming loose it has performed way above my expectations. The couple of problems I had were rectified while I waited at the dealership and took just over three hours, so not to bad.
I would go as far as saying this is the best car I have owned so far in my history of car ownership. |

Hi Simon,
I have only had my car around 6 months, but I am still happy with it. Yes, it has paint chips.. Yes, some cars have problems, but it is the same with any brand. Volvo, Mercedes, VW etc etc. I would also say that an 08 is a better car than an 06 from what I read on here. Look at the satisfaction survey for some more details. |

Hi Simon
I've had my 2.2 SE for a year now and have only had a problem with a bump stop on one strut. The rest of the car has been fine. |

Honda reliability
Hi Simon
I have just purchased an 06 1.8 sport after taking into consideration many different manufactures. I chose Honda from my experience, that is 8 years as an AA Patrol,10 years working for BMW and am now an RAC Patrol. There is not a manufacturer on the planet that makes a trouble free car and none of them will pretend to. It is very rare I go to a japenese car with a non driver fault but yes it does happen but I can honestly say I have only been out to 2 8th gen Civics one a puncture no spare and another out of fuel on the motorway, that said as I'm sure most are aware the AA currenty cover Hondas and I have spoken to many AA Patrols who are friends of mine and I'm sure most would back-up what I'm saying. If I were you I really would not be worried there is a chance something could fail on your car but statistically I doubt it very much. As for my car, it is the best I've ever owned and it's replacement will be another one that I'm sure of. Regards Chris The views expressed are that of my own and not of the companies named. |

I think the faults with the early cars are over represented here, in as much as we all post our problems and not all the good bits. (Today I had the 206th trouble free trip is a boring thread!)
I have had issues with my 56 plate, but they have all been resolved by the dealer and I have been compensated. This did not happen with my Focus, that left me after 6 years with exactly the same faults as when it arrived! |

Hey Simon - ALL newly launched cars have niggles and problems when they get released! I think the Honda ones (knocking suspension, dodgy fuel cap etc) are nothing compared to some re-calls sent out by other car manufacturers!
I had my "55" reg 1.6 VTEC Sport for 25,000 miles, and have so far done 10,000 in my 2.2. As everyone else has also said - nothing serious should go wrong with a Honda - or Jap car in that. |

Have a look here http://www.civinfo.com/forum/survey....results&sid=28 to make up your own opinion. I'm the happy owner of a 2.2 i-ctdi since one year (Already one year !!!) I've driven 36500 km with her (lot of pleasure) and I've been 4 times visiting my dealer since then. One for putting in new accesories, one for a recall (ID plate n°), one for servicing and the last one to buy the filling oil plug I've lost (due to my own stupidity). It's a major change from my previous car who need to pay a visit to the dealer nearly every month... But it was a French car I would say go for it, but like with every manufacturer there is always a "chance of bad luck" of getting a Lemon ! The only unluckiest person I know is TC with two lemon in a raw (Sorry for that TC So read the survey, review the different section and make your choice, it's up to you. But I can tell you that driving a spaceship is fun |
