Problems!

Had my new Type S for a week and have two gripes so far:

I have the auto dipping rear view mirror but I am convinced that it doesn't work. When I turn it on and off when it's dark with cars behind me there does not to appear to be any difference at all. Any ideas?

Secondly, the radio reception really is cr*p, isn't it. Unfortunately it's a company car so I don't think there's much I can do about it.

Turn on your interior lights at night, it should go totally black after a minute or so. Then turn the interior lights off, it should then fade back to reasonable clarity. Secondly is it turned on???

Surprised you need it... When I tested the demo car (don't get mine till 11 March) I found that the rear spoiler cut headlight beam by a substantial amount...

Cheers,

Only at a set distance if some a-hole gets too close, the light goes under the spoiler, plus it helps my bad night vision

...and that is probably the reason why the rear mirror doesn't work
A simple test: place a torch at the rear, point it at the mirror, then operate the "auto mode" if no difference go to the dealer for replacement.
Had a similar problem with my C5 - the mirror was dimming but not dimming strong enough, therefore I prefer the "conventional" switch-type mirror

Thanks for the suggestions folks. I've used to a dipping mirror on my last two cars so thought i'd spec it again.

Tried the interior light test tonight and no joy, the mirror didn't change at all, so looks like it's not working (I did turn it on by the way )

Trip to the dealers I think.

I think i read on here that the dimming rear mirror wasn't very good so I didn't get it when I was offered it by the dealer.

Personally ( and I am not being brodick here ) I have no problem with my radio and see no difference between my civic and my fabia which has a conventional ariel - so, maybe a visit to the dealer is needed to rectify a small radio issue.

My friend mentioned that the radio in their car was a bit naff for reception, but mines is fine, but then we live at oposite ends of the country so I think it just all deends on where you live for the reception on the radio.

On the point of the auto dimming mirror, the salesman I bought my civic from said not to bother ordering it cause it was useless, seems he was telling the truth!

That kind of driving really wakes the pig in me - I then go slightly on the brake, just so as to turn on the lights - the idiot hits the brakes and I go on without further problems. If he's too silly to understand turning on the rear foglight will help

I actually find that if I put the rear fog light on it keeps the idiots well back. Its rather bright and just at the right hight for them to get the message

I do tend to find that these idiots that seems to think its acceptable to tailgate when its quite clear that you can't go any faster due to traffic like to put the ful beam on when you put the brake on. I love it though because when you V-tec it away you can put the middle finger up and know that they can see it iluminated by their lights lol!

V-tec away doesn't work with most here in Germany, they tend to drive 250+hp cars. One should only be allowed to get the same number of HP as his IQ index (and for some of these guys it would be 30 or less). As to reacting to idiots - it gets even worse - in Switzerland one guy told me he is driving with a camera at the back of his car (!) and if someone hangs on his tail he sends the video to the police (I find that a bit extreme though).
A nice scene I witnessed last year in Poland: a guy in a Jeep (in a city) came on with (I think) 150 km/h and kicked the brakes a few meters behind a Seicento doing 80 (which is already too fast by law), continued 2m behind it for 10 seconds then he saw the side windows of the Seicento go down and two "lollipops" go out - this was a civilian police car, and probably his last day behind the wheel for some time. Frankly, I find such methods much fairer than the speed cameras, because only this way the right ones are caught.

You wish it would be the last day behind the wheel, civicfan. He probably bribed the police and got away with it. Oh yes it is still common here to bribe the police as they are paid so little! Probably carried on his journey doing exactly the same thing!

It's ok I understood the polish! I am not saying they didn't read the riot act but I would be surprised if he lost his license.

There was an incident in my city where a guy was driving 120km/h in the city and a tram stopped to let people off. The guy didn't and hit a lady as she got off the tram. She was thrown about 20m by the impact, hit a tree and died. Did the guy get sent to prison for murder - no! He was given a fine and suspended sentence ( or similar here in poland). There was an outcry at the small sentence but as far as I know nothing was done about it.

You certainly understand Polish but others probably not
Yes it's a sad thing that sentences are not sentences any more, if things continue this way I'm convinced something like another Hitler will come (but this is OT here). The police will let you get away with a smaller or bigger bribe in most cases, but I doubt it will be the case if they feel endangered themselves - and they are becoming increasingly cautious because of "provocative" controls by their internal department (believe me I know some cops from this dept.). Anyway, in Poland the "racing times" are over soon, they want to introduce a large number of automatic speed cameras (including the few highways) and they get EU funding so they will be able to do it

I always use the rear fog trick (as well as a finger out the window, they tend to get the message then). Had some stupid (dare I say this) women behind me the other day, wet and horrible day, force 9 gale, visibility about 60-70 foot, she was literally 5 inches from my bumber, I couldn't see below her bonnet!!! I was doing about 5mph under the 30 limit as the road has lots of car showrooms etc. on it and there always loads of cars pulling out on test drives nad transporters, so with visibility naff seemed sensible, nope, she sat on my tail, as I got slower and slower, then as it cleared, she went to go past and I left her in the dust (I'd gotten to first gear by then). Don't think she was too happy, but tough sh*t, shouldn't get on peoples tails.

Mine is not very good either.
I am quite sure one of the demo cars I drove was better....

There is at least one user on here who managed to get a dealer to find that there was a problem with the grounding of the aerial wire between the antenna and the HU. I have been thinking of trying to find a dealer to look for that when mine goes in for the handbrake mod.
