ive got milan red and i have a few chips, its 17 months old and with 10k on the clock with a good mix of driving and speeds, but i find that the plastic bumper absorbs the impact of a stone, as there are afew marks in the bumper but no chipped paint, i just touch them in as i find them and there gone. the trick is not to let to many build up as they will show more, then you just look for them.

Try and touch the chips in as soon as possible too. If the weather/ rain gets under the clear coat, it tends to blow it, leaving you with a larger repair.

Had a 2003 Renault Megane in silver, not a stone chip on the bonnet/front in 50000+ miles.
3 week old NHB Civic 1 chip on bonnet - Can not believe it!!
Mega car , crap paint.

Exactly, I think it's a clear defect in the car.

I'm really surprised by the amount of people on here who just seem to accept that 'it is what it is'; and coming up with all sorts of TLC ways to get round the root cause.

Personally, I'm unhappy with the general toughness of the paint. I had Supaguard applied before delivery (for free... phew!), and this hasn't made a blind bit of difference.

I've given it a fair bit of time to see how the paint handles, and I'm just not happy with it.
I shouldn't have to be scared to clean the car, and worry that the guy in front of me is going to throw some gravel up.
On any other black car I've owned, this hasn't been a major issue. I could've scrubbed down my 2004 Megane with mild sandpaper and it would still shine up a treat!
Heck if someone kicks up a stone or rock, obviously it'll do damage, but is it just me that thinks Honda are taking us for a ride on this one?

It is my understanding that hard/thin paint is prone to stone chips and soft paint is prone to scratching easily.

I mentioned this to my Service Manager when my car got it's first service this year.

After 20 minutes of denial that there is a problem with the paint, also stating that you'd be lucky to get a bodyshop to match the quality of Honda's paint (I asked if this was to equal the poor quality but he didn't respond), he told me that Honda do not include stonechips under their paintwork warranty.

He also topped this off by going back on his previous statement that Honda would warrant a repair if it was undeniable due to duff paint, by detailing a case where he had a bonnet that was covered in scratches (with none on the windscreen - which is the gauge of how soft your paint is apparently. If it scratches your windscreen it will scratch your paint. Well duh! What about the ones that don't leave marks on your windscreen?) Honda sent out an inspector and knocked it back as it was stonechips not soft paint. The Dealers went ahead and did the respray work gratis cos they thought HUK were wrong.

Hey maybe Honda will solve this problem, as their new adverts state how they love problems and thrive on finding ingenious solutions?

Probably not though as they have yet to recognise that their paint has a problem.

They know they are in error. They know that most people wont be bothered by the paint.
So they wont sanction a warranty repair.
We are bothered because we are here, in this forum!!
Keep on at them. If enough of us complain........????
They might.............
Then again!!

Can you imagine the cost to Honda if they admit that their paint is below standard, they will never admit there is a problem with their paint, the fact that they blanked out parts of my report proves that.

Surely if we mount some form of petition with example photos from as many Civinfo members as possible, they will be forced to act?

They need to be aware that we won't just accept this issue.

One of the main reasons I chose Honda was the relatively high resale residuals of them.
I loved my Megane II 1.9DCi Dynamique (eleccy problems aside), and was only deflated by the resale value.

How much is our resale value going to be affected by shoddy paint?

If this is something that HUK won't acknowledge and rectify, I'm pretty sure some of the auto magazines would be interested!

Agreed.

I hope people don't think I'm setting a vendetta against Honda for no reason.
I positively love my Civic, but I'm just unhappy at the paintwork - and I know my car isn't anywhere near as bad as some of the descriptions on here!

Its the same across the board i am afraid with paint and swirls.. My wifes new Type-S was handed over with swirls after i told them not to touch it, leave the traffic film on and i would detail it from new.

Alas the polish immigrant with the brush got hold off it. I complained to DP and HUK but fobbed off. gave up and will take my PC too it in better weather.

buggers.

I have been in contact with my dealer over chipped paint and latterly paint flaking off inside both doors. Seems Honda UK ask for stuff then you hear nothing and have to chase it up again and again. This has been going on for months. My dealer has sent in an independant report to Honda UK which states there is an adhesion problem between the primer and the top coats. His opinion is the whole shell of car would require painting to sort. Both dealer and the bodyshop chap know this would not be acceptable given the resale implications not to mention the cost of such an undertaking.

My paint scratches so easily ( I use two bucket method inc grit guard, wool mitt and paranoia when washing) and has dozens of micro chips on the front end. I'm sure just driving it through the air scratches it

I bought a Honda due to their perceived reliabilty and build quality. Typical that when I buy one the quality takes a nose dive.

I have just called Honda Customer relations and it seems they employ about 4 folk to deal with everyhing so message left to call me back. I just know I'll hear nothing. I will contact Trading standards tomorrow.

Milano Red by the way.
