What is your point with that remark?

I was quoting someone that said would a re-spray be the same standard as before!

No probs! I just figured that whoever got your car will at least be happy that as it falls apart around them, the colour will still be nice and bright!

Can concur with others that Supaguard does absolutely eff-all to improve the situation.

I got Supaguard done for 'free' when I bought the car by the dealer.
The only benefit I can say about Supaguard, and it's rather minor, is that if the car is a bit dirty, it tends to still not look too shabby - this may have nothing to do with Supaguard though!

I've had my Nighthawk Black Type S GT since July last year and I have around 8-10 stone chips right through the primer on the bonnet and wing.
Compare that again, to my Black Megane, which looked PRISTINE after three years of varying road conditions.

My car will be getting serviced within a month, I'll be raising it with the dealer, but I don't hold much hope.

Stone chips happen, we all accept that, but it's beyond that. You can't even wash the car without using a piece of silk or you'll inevitably get big swirls and scratches all over it.
I've tried polishing these out, and using a wax crayon on the stone chips, the car now looks good from a distance; but in a year or so's time, any prospective seller is going to notice the shabby paint when they're up close.

I chose Honda over other manufacturers due to their resale holding values; if the paint continues in this vein, I will have made a very poor choice through no fault of my own.

Has anyone noticed that there seems to be less stone chips on the plastic bumpers??? When I clean my car I can see what looks to be a rather thick layer of laqure on the plastic bumpers (where they attach at the wing) Wonder if they protect this more due to the fact it 'more' likely to take stone chips than the rest of the car?

Actually when I get home i'll take a few pics

I tend to agree, the bumpers do seem to be fine compared with the bonnet and wings, surely they must get the same amount of "hits" so there must be a difference with the paint thickness or laquer coat?

From what I've seen on here it seems to be mainly black and red cars that have the stone chip problem. Am I right?

No, my car is alabaster silver and I have them too.
Being a nearer colour to the undercoat, they just don't show quite as much, but get up close and - **/~~$.

Sorry to be blunt - but its a fact the civic paint is too thin and in a lot of cases too soft. Honda have a very low minimum specification (70 microns) most people in the know about paint will confirm that this a very amount for areas such as the bonnet. The paint is built up in layers, and each layer should have a min - max allowance of thickness, the top coat being the thickest BUT even if the top coat falls below Honda's minumum spec but the rest of the layers bring the thickness to the minimum reading of 70 Honda say that is acceptable.

In answer to Angie4M's post - of course there is a difference between the plastic trim and the car, the plastics are ready painted in mass and then added on to the car.

In answer to KenP's post - all colours are affected but it is more likely that the chips show more on the black and the red and probably the dark blue also.

They will be the ones, where the guy who fills up the paint vats, tripped over and spilt a couple of gallons over them TC.

I guess that possibly the very slight flex in the plastics of the bumpers may also help reduce chips on them?

which doesn't help in any way at all, just looking for an explanation

After just over a year of owning a Galaxy Grey I also have the dreaded stone chips, but not as many as some are reporting.

The bonus of GG plus Milano to a degree is that the undercoat is the same or almost the same colour underneath so they don't show.

Any darl colour gets the standard light grey which sticks out like a sore thumb.

The manufacturers really need to develop something for the front area that can withstand the poor condition of todays roads with 'loose chippings' being the norm.

Reminds me, must get another tube of touch up

Have had a NHB 3 months now and covered 12K, the bonnet is covered in stone chips.

Had a Mazda 3 mps over 12 months and covered 18K and think i noticed 1 chip!

Also had an ep3 type-r on a 52 plate and honda resprayed the bonnet when i bought it, sold it back to honda 18 months later and needed another bonnet respray!
