[AC/Heater] AC & Heated rear window

I have asked about this before but I still think I have a problem, I have noticed that the rear heated window seems to be on all the time (switch turned off) and also there is a pool of water under the car after a drive home from work (50miles) even when the AC is turned off. Someone said that the heated window comes on if the outside temp is low but I noticed this this morning and the outside temp was 6-7. Has anyone else noticed these issues?

My heated rear screen comes on automatically in the morning when the weather is cold, very handy it is too.
I am sure that the pool of water is still the condensor on the air con. I can only guess that it is still working despite your not benefiting from its effects in the cabin.
You are aware that you need to switch the air con on regularly, even during winter, to ensure that the seals don't dry out?
Many people, including me, leave their air con on all year round as one of the benefits is that it dehumidifies the air and stops the windows from steaming up in poor or cold weather. You might save a few pennies by switching it off, and that is debatable, but your journey will be a lot less stressfull.

Thanks for that, it's just that i was looking at the honda manual and it does not say anything about the heated rear window coming on automatically. Do you know why the condensor should still produce a pool of water even if the AC is turned off.

I can only think that whilst the air con is not actually working the compressor still is and therfore the water in the atmosphere is condensing when in contact with the compressor fins and dripping onto the road/drive. As long as it is not a leak from the system, which I am sure it is not, it is just one of those things that you gradually get used to. Gives us all a shock when we first have air con in a car.
The heated screen issue has been asked a number of times and I can only guess that it is an undocumented feature like the automatic locking was on the 2006 cars.

I haven't noticed that the rear window automatically switches on at low temperatures. Why is there a switch for it which also controls the heated door mirrors or do these switch on automatically. With regard to the climate control this is best left on all the time. Hondas always used to have two modes for this, auto when a manual function was selected and full auto when left to its own devices. Why this has changed I don't know.

You sure your AC is OFF?

Because when it is not marked as ON or AUTO it is still running

has to display AC OFF to be totally off as far as I know.

Will check again tomorrow to be sure.

Also if totally off I wonder if the (small) intercooler on the diesel might be responsible for the puddle.

I noticed the 'problem' with the rear demister a few months ago and took my car back to the dealer. They said it was the second one they'd come across recently and ordered a replacement dash switch, which failed to solve the problem. I then noticed that the problem dissappeared later on in the day. Took it back to the dealer who contacted Honda UK who then confirmed that the rear demister is designed to come on automatically at first switch on in colder temperatures (seems to be anything under 9 or 10 celsius) in order to add loading to the engine, which then warms up quicker. Apparently the detail was never translated from the original Japanese documentation! The least they could do is tell everyone!

ok guys...i would like to put this one to sleep.

all models with climate control will automatically switch on the heated rear screen and heated mirrors if the outside temperature is below 10 degrees. this is normal and no trip to the dealer is needed.

i hope this stops any worry.
