Clutch burning??

Hi,

Was going up to Uni today to see a mate, and whilst going up the main hill, had to slow to a crawl to avoid a large box, the car was rolling quite slowly in second gear, and I went to shift down to first, the gear lever moved, engaged etc. but the clutch didn't, I reved to accellerate and tha gears spun, and the revs went higher, back down to second, same thing, by this time worrying, tried third no luck, back to first, in it goes and takes off, but with an awful smell of burning clutch, dealership, can find nothing wrong, and it's stopped doing it now. I'ts only happened once, but on a hill quite scary

Anyone else had similar in a proper manual???

Tom

Oh my... This really looks like a fried clutch, sh*t...
Once had this, yes, but in an old Fiat, >20 years ago (and it was my fault I was pulling a way too heavy caravan through Greece)

:edit) if the service says nothing wrong, maybe it isn't that bad? The smell could come from rubber (tyres) and the "lameness" from the ESP (?)

What kind of floor mat you got? Maybe it got stuck for a clutch, so it didn't let pedal move all way up?

I had this problem once. I was getting my car out from my friends garage. I was reversing on a very slopy driveway with high revs. It smelled awful and I thought thats the end of my brand new clutch from my brand new car. Fortunately I didn't notice any difference. Than my friend (a car mechanic) told me that honda clutches are very resistant for such situations. I don't know if its true. Did you check your clutch at the dealer? Maybe I should go and check it...?

Yes it sounds like you were frying your clutch, I did the same on a steep hill. I started to roll back and gave it more gas, then lifted the clutch with high revs and had the burning smell. I do not recommend doing this too offen as you will burn the clutch out!

It sounds like that you did nt engage gear correctly for some reason, do you have very low miles? I had my reverse gear sticking but touch wood, its now disappeared (got 6,000 miles on the car now). It may improve once you run in the car and its gearbox, the Honda mechanic that I saw told me that its tight on a new car and needs wearing in.

Mine had about 4000 miles on the clock when it happened, it's been fine since really, no more burning episodes.

ATB,
Tom
