As long as the stain is still wet, washing white wine actually helps! Followed by lots of salt and then detergent washing to finis off.

Hi Variantealta

I use autoglym window cleaner. It works just as well as vinegar without having the corrosive properties. You don't need to use RainX on the hydrophillic part of the rear screen, although as everyone has said its pretty useless when it comes to road salt.

Sorry CF..I totally disagree!!
The RainX transforms the rear screen.
AG is only a cleaner not a water repellant.
On a RainX applied rear screen, the water just runs off!!
Why dont you try it

TBH, it's only corrosive if used in quantity and neat, when mixed with the road salt it becomes as neutral as water in theory, plus the fact whats worse, alkali salt or acidic vinegar, plus, it's a lot cheaper to use vinegar and water, then just wash it over with a little water if your that worried, personally used it for years (even before I was driving on my dads/mums cars, and it's never caused a problem). I like AG glass cleaner, but it does leave a film which goes manky over time (it seems to attract grease).

Hi Robbo 51

Are you suggesting that you use rainex on the lower part of the window?

I understood from the brochure that the lower part had a hydroscopic coating already. Perhaps it need reapplying as I feel water doesn't dispel from the lower window quite as readily as it used to.

Hi Dimply/Robbo

My lower of the rear window seems to dispel water quite well without the rainex, but I'll put some on to see if it improves.

There's no harm in making something good even better.

You guys might want to read the following post - page 3 has several people advising NOT to use Rain-X on the lower window!

I've just had a look on the bottle and it does say not to use on plastics.

I must start reading instructions.

Hi dylang 652

I thought I saw something which said not to used on plastics. Thanks for the reminder and thanks Dimpleyred for the PM.

I must admitt it really dosn't bother me not having a rear wiper, i dont think the screen gets too dirty at all.

As for using rain X on plastics i think there is one that is designed to be used on motorbike helmet visors so that would be fine to use on the lower part of the screen, another thing which is what i do is apply wax to the side and rear windows whilst im doing the bodywork, beads water off very well.

To be honest I don't think it matters if the lower half is hydroscopic. I find that eventually a sheen of salt staining occurs as the interior of the car gets warmer and the surface water evaporates before it has a chance to bead off.

I also find that the split rear screen is a double edged sword anyway. At night it's great cos the split prevents idiots with high beams blinding you, but when the rear screen needs a clean you have a hard time seeing anyone behind you at night.

Guess it's just Honda's way of getting us to take more care of our cars, and give them a damn good cleaning every week.

This is where we differ in opinion I think.

At night with a mucky rear screen I can still see that I have a pair of headlamps behind me which I find sufficient.

Any other info about what is behind doesn't really bother me.

Horses for courses I suppose.
