Owing to the curve of the rear window, the wiper would touch only a small part of the window and the motor would have to be glass mounted. While I am not intrinsically against rear wipers, (I had a few in my time,) to put one on a civic would need a massive redesign of the rear and through my limited knowledge of physics, would only be possible if the rear looked like a Focus or Prius. For that reason alone, I hope that Honda leave it alone.

And like Kremmen I also drive police vans on a regular basis now and have been taught how to use the side mirriors so the rear view visibility is not an issue. It also helps you to park more accurately.
I cannot remember the last time I parked facing inwards, certainly many many years ago. I always reverse into spaces using the side mirrors. As a result I can park in my garage with the rear wheel arch and the nearside mirror both about 1" from the garage wall.

It's also a lot easier to get out of parking spaces when you are facing the right way (IMO).

Yes I do that too, my wife cringes when she sees how close my car is to the wall and says she wouldn't dream of getting my car out of the garage.

A bit of a result I think!!!

If there was a rear wiper then you would also require a washer jet me thinks to remove the crap on the window at the time if it was dry and where would this fit in?

I always used to see cars I liked and said I couldn't have one because it didn't have a rear wiper then I went and bought a car without one and it doesn't bother me at all. That little bit at the bottom gets manky easily but quite frankly the car behind shouldn't be that close that your having to rely on this part of the window to see them.

I also try and reverse park at every oppertunity as I find it much easier to out of spaces. I also have to reverse the cars along the front of the house, usually having to make sure I don't hit the hedge, the neighbours cars, the caravan and my Mum or Dad's car. In my last car there was a huge gap to get through but with the Civic there is no room for error and I get it spot on everytime using my mirrors mostly. Just have to open the door to make sure i'm not on this silly little drain thing that shouldn't be blocked

There are many, many people on this site who have wanted a back wiper for ages, but the fact of the matter is its never going to happen so we have all just learnt to live with it. Its sad but true

The only time I could do with a rear wiper is first thing in the morning when the window is wet, so I have taking to using an old wiper blade to clear the window before I get into the car

I reckon it would fit quite nicely on the split rear wingy thingy.

The wiper motor could therefore be hidden by that wing as well.

If a re-modelled wing was on the cards indentations on that wing would allow the wiper to blend in quite nicely too.

Well if they can hide it from (rear) view then that may be acceptable. but I would never use it out of principle! . If I did, it would be becuase I'd filled the windscreen washer with Rain-X....ooh now there's an idea!!

I have just been outside to the carpark with my trusty ruler, and looked at the rear wiper housings on a 306 & Focus (both wipers pertrude from the bottom of the rear glass).
If the wiper motor was behind the high level brake light in the middle, the motor housing would block most of the middle of the lower window, also owing to the steep slope of the rear window the blade would miss a great deal of the window.

IMO, the amount of cleared window would not justify the expense and hinderence caused. For it to work, the rear window would have to be one piece and not curved at the sides.

I am not saying Honda will not fit one. Ford did with the Sierra as when it was launched all the brochures said a wiper was not needed because aerodynamics kept the rear window clear, however within two or so years all hatchbacks (except the base one perhaps) had a wiper as standard.

My saloons ahve never had wipers, I find the are annoying, ugly and bassers to clean round, they also leave that horrid "arc" of dirt on your window.
