Angry Honda Car Mats

Has anyone else found that the car mats fitted by Honda are prone to wear? I purhased my Civic new last March and paid £60 for the Honda mats. The car has done 8000 miles, I don't wear work boots to drive and vacuum them clean every week. The pile is flat from my heel and the left hand corner is fraying under the cluth pedal. I would have expected the materials used for genuine Honda accessories to be fit for purpose and I'll be contacting my dealer when take the Civic for its first service.

They're all the same.

They need to place a thick rubber section at the strategic point where the heel touches the mat (just like the carpet underneath).

So there you go Honda - another one for your 'Problem Playground'

Honda (UK) Problem Playground

along with the i-shift and hard suspension

My mat is wearing thin also, and I have only had the car since the end of June. I have done 20000 miles since then though. It is not something unique to Honda, my previous Renaults and Vauxhalls did the same, however their mat sets were cheaper.

I reckon I could get a small rubber section from a donor mat and surgically attach it to the civic mat.

Bit of shaving of Civic mat carpet and contact adhesive

Proper Job!

I would be tempted to rivet a piece of plate to it (like you get on racing mats).

Also Tesco's have a full set of car carpet mats for 5 pounds at the moments, so possibly one for butchering??

I have a hole in mine, 46k though, although a lot of motorway driving, so not much clutch use. The hole is where the heel of the right foot would be as you move it to the brake, if you use your heel when applying the brake

Use self adhesive Velcro strips, to fix an additional layer of carpet over the worn section. It won't budge, so if the Honda mat isn't too badly damaged yet, no point in b-ggering it up completely by using glue.

Not sure if this is the best place for this post but it is along the same lines..

Does anyone have a problem with the Honda mats moving? especially the drivers' side, when we have been driving for a while, the mat ends up scrunched up in the pedals and so the pedals catch on the mat which means a jerky gear change.. Any ideas how to fix them in place? I noticed that the drivers' side mat has 2 holes at the opposite end to the pedals but no fixings and wondered if they should be any fixing, if not how can I fix it in place?

Thanks

If they are genuine Honda carpet mats, they should be attached to a anchor by the drivers seat which came with the mats.
Pictures of the anchor, and where it should be correctly fitted are in the faults section of the wiki

Update on worn mats

I told my dealer Statstone Leeds that I expected the Honda mats to wear better after only 9000miles and they followed it up as a warranty claim and managed to get a complete new set. I don't know if Honda accept that the materials are prone to premature wear, but I can't fault my dealer for their response.

Mine are worn by the clutch pedal because the mat does not fit properly...and the T Bar thingy is loose. Anyone know how to tighten it?
