25000 miles + a gritter + stone chips = Rust

After driving on the M62 the other night I had to pass a road gritter doing 50mph in the middle lane. There were 3 of them a few miles apart which made me wince as I had to pass each one to get home.

When I inspected the bonnet the following day it was a right mess

Then a few days later after washing I found a nice big rust spot on the drivers side wing.

Great. 10 months old and it's already starting to rust.

Surely it shouldn't be rusting so early - I think a trip to the dealer and a few strong words are needed. Modern cars should not, in my opinion, suffer with rust after such short periods.

Sorry to hear about the gritter attack - do you have a touch-up pen?

trouble is, any car will rust if a stone chip goes through to bare metal, especially at this time of year

You'll probably find, as with most manufacturers, that untreated stonechips are not included under the guarantee.

They are not included.

The 5 year anti-rust guarantee is only covering rust holes caused by rust coming from the inside.

Just a quickie - I bought a Honda touch up paint stick thing (to cover up a couple of the stone chips I have) but it says on the back not to use it under 15 degrees C!

I don't have the luxury of a heated garage, so does that mean I have to wait until Spring to use it?

Have used it at 11-12 C, it was OK. Thin layer - dries slowly!
