I agree it should be free but really couldn't be bothered with a fight I probably wouldn't have won with Honda! The paint has a few swirls but I'm used to that now. Just come back from a 1000ish mile round trip to Cornwall and no chips yet. |

I've got the boy from Chips away on the drive fixing my Mum's BM and i'm tempted to get him to fix the rather large stone chip on my wing....hmmmmm....was even going to ask how much he would charge to do the bonnet and wings

well done on getting the respray. I have type s and the lower front spoiler(grey bit) is totally chiped to bits it also has what appears to be salt ground in after the winter so it looks like its speckled white even after cleaning what suggestions do people have about approaching the dealers? Or will i get the same response about the soft plastic on the dash!

I have done 820 miles in my car now and just saw 2 chips on the very front area of the bonnet. I can not believe the paint is so thin. It was fine when I washed the car Saturday and only drove it again today and just noticed the chips.
I am going to take this up with the dealer so they can sort this out as this is not acceptable. |

Believe it or believe it not a lot of manufactures are using Water based paints now, cheaper and better for the enviroment. I bet when you go into the dealers well best to go to servicing or parts (they tell the truth) then they will more than likely tell you that the paint is thin and its thinner on the wings......they know, Honda know and its the way it is. Unfortunate but true |

This saving the Planet thing with earth friendly stuff is driving me up the wall.
My painters complain that it doesn't have any guts to it and won't last 5 minutes. My builders have plastic rainwater goods going pink, as its made from recycled rubbish. I won't go on with the list as its almost endless, but what we in this little country manage to contribute in 5 years , won't make up for 1 months rubbish being chucked out by India and China. P.S. Now I and my counterparts are being told to design zero footprint houses at a large increase in price for the clients. So, if it does work and we save the rain forests etc etc etc, some silly s-d will decide to start another world war, due to the lack of oil, water and gas and its the Big E for us anyway. Final end of rant. Last edited by Jack The Lad. : 2nd April 2008 at 21:05. |

Is the colour okay under artificial light, as this can show up different shades on a car, ie repainted panels. has minr damage on my drivers door on my previous car (Red) and ended up having the whole side resprayed to match the difference's.......................... |

Ok I have an answer from my dealer regarding the chips I am getting on my car's bonnet.
Even though I spent loads of money with them buying the GT version with all extras and the car is barely 1 month old and not even 1000miles on the clock they reckon it is a fair price to charge me £350 for a bonnet respray. No mirrors, just the bonnet. I could not disagree more with them. I really doubt they will be getting any of my business again. |

We're all in the same boat, I have stone chips on the bonnet, drivers door, passengers wing mirror and a huge one on the drivers wing (within 3 days of owning the car)! My car has just covered 2300 miles and quite frankly i'm sick of caring about the stone chips. Its going to happen no matter what. I may ask a friend of the family how much it would be to have the Civic Sprayed that Yellow (but that can be iffy) or White. He sprayed the spoiler on my Mini for £30 when I was quoted £180 + vat from BMW |

Salt n vinegar..?
With you chips.. ![]() Yea me's suffered the same fate, got a couple of crackers on my bonnet aswell and I'm affraid to say it stone chips I'm talkin aboot..! The problem I fear is, that if I were to get a respray after a few more chips then the respray paint will be softer than the Honda factory paint plus the colour match can be a problem in silver.. Don't want it looking like a cut n shut..! Resprays done at most all coachworks are done under human control ie a chap (or chapet) with a spray gun which tends to be given a thicker coat but hardened in a low bake oven for speed. The end result tends to scratch easier and doesn't stand up to stone chips as well. The laquer tends also to be softer and can result in peeling after a few years or so just like the alloys we all moan about.. ![]() Maybe things have improved in the last few years since I had my Celica resprayed after it was scratched by a "low life pond living scum bag" but I fear it hasn't changed that much in 7 years.. Anywayz I'll see how longer I can put up with my Civic's spotty face before I take him for a makeover at the car clinic..! Cheers... |

Amazing how paints change, my "R" reg Xantia was totally chip free, even at 4½ years when I p/x'd it.
I still mostly blame the latest culture of them leaving 'loose chippings' on repaired roads instead of cleaning up properly. If there were no stones to be thrown about in the first place.............. |

The only stone chip I ever got was in my 5 series, because the bonnet was a replacement for some reason, but other than the one chip it had, it was almost 8 years old when I sold her, my 3 was almost 8 years old and my Escort Van is coming up 8 years old too, and they have one stone chip between them and thats a total of about 3-350,000 miles covered between them!!!!
Honda get with the program, stop BSing everyone with this enviromental change cr*p (IT'S ALL A BIG FANTASY ANYWAY!!!!!!!) and just be honest water based is cheaper to make and apply, therefore you make more money, just be honest about and realise 90% of your customers don't give a hoot about how much damage the paint will do to the earth!!!!!! Did anyone here honestly think, oooooh, I'll buy a honda petrol engined internal combustion engine because the paint on it won't harm a lesser spotted anderteluvian pond beetle???????? NO! ![]() I actually expected them to just brush me off. Bottom line is that the paint is rubbish. I have another 2 scratches now. One on the rear and the other at the drivers door. I can't care anymore. The paint will be screwed after a year or 2. The car is still brilliant though. Respraying a car these days are not too difficult and I am sure a few of us here will have it done soon. Keep us posted on the outcome though. Stick with the same colour though. A respray using a different colour is a real pain to have done. And it's rarely perfect or even close to what you'd expect. The yellow you mention is the colour they had on the prototype or when they showcased the car in Japan. Lovely colour and looks amazing on the car. The thing is that to change the colour properly you will have to take everything out of the car and prepare and respray the shell...A big job and not worth it in my opinion. The car is never the same again |

What we need is an iffy paintshop, who are not into saving the planet and can still get hold of good old fashion proper car paint. Even if its only the clear coat, from years back.
I bet that it can be purchased from China, - they don't give a s-d. Last edited by Jack The Lad. : 11th April 2008 at 18:57. |

My 2.2 goes for the front end repaired on Wednesday at the local honda approved bodyshop (actually it's a fully fledged coach-works not many about now) so I reckon with luck it will come back better than original (optimistic I know). I'll post next week once done if satisfied or not.

Its all about saving money. Can't be about repeat custom either though as Honda wont get my money again and no friend of mine thats car proud will either as a result of their apathetic attitude to their crap paint.Yes you can take it that I too have spent ages trying to get a resolve and whilst the flaking off inside my doors is getting done under warranty the same paint on the front end is okay and its just stone chipping apparently. I can't count the chips anymore as the depression sets in after 20 |

It might be a good idea to supply the names and of the paintshops we us so we can start a thread here stating where it's actually worth getting it done. Also state the price you were charged. |
