My black Type R GT has a stone chip on the wing. Honda recommended a touch up pen. The chip is only about 2mm in length. I'm going to pick it up today from Honda.

Do you also think this would be ok?

Yea this will work fine. I bought the set at Halfords for about £10 and it is working well for me. Let us know what you get with the Honda pen and if they charge you for it.

I opted for the Halfords pens as I chipped my bonnet to the metal and needed a bit of primer on it. Halfords have the primer, colour and clear coat in their set so get some primer and use it when you chip to the metalif Honda does not supply this.

Also the best advice I have is to clean your car really well before starting to get all the oil and grease etc of the chipped area. Then make sure that the chipped area is covered in primer and not all the way to the metal. If you see metal get some primer on it(also a pen).

Then when you start touching it up make sure you have a soft cloth with some water nearby to clean up the paint if you screw up. You need to be quick here though. Dry it off if this happens and be certain it is 100% dry.

I also found that covering the tip of a coctail stick (tooth pick) in the paint and using this to apply worked best for me. With some time and a few attempts it covers well and after a wash a few days later you can't see it at all. Just use the paint sparingly and coat it up in layers.

I hope this helps

I had a look now and you are right. Nothing there at all.

You can try and ask at their counter using your actual paint code. Apparently they can help you with this code. If you can't get it here then try your local dealer. Ask them who is their approved spray shop and then get in touch with them about a pen for you.

A chip stick/pen/little brush that looks like your going to do your nails only costs about £4-£5 from the stealer

I got a official NHB black touch up pencil (PN: 08703 B 92 PHE). I just opened its like a nail polish brush. Wow the smell has some kick.

Thanks everyone I will have a go at the weekend. The dealer said its down to the primer so I will have a go with the pen.

It's a pain having to do this after only 4 weeks / 1200 miles

I love the car though. Still have to pinch myself when I see it parked in the driveway :P

Mines was a week old and only 60 miles on the clock when a stone took a chunk out my wing. I feel your pain.

On another note re the front and back plastic bumpers, has anyone else noticed (if you get right in close to the joins) that they have plastic film on them? The skirts however do not

It might be a good idea to supply the names and of the paintshops we us so we can start a thread here stating where it's actually worth getting it done. Also state the price you were charged.
Not great, its going back to get redone due to some lumps and dips in the paint... The main chap at the repairers was very apologetic and said it must come back to be done properly as he was not happy with it, imagine how I felt!

I would think that if it was resprayed by an authorised agent Honda uses you should be ok. And if it does affect the selling price it won't be by much.

The other option is leave it all chipped up and when you sell it you can tell the buyer that you will get it resprayed before he takes ownership of the car. Personally I will not buy a car that is covered in chips but will buy a car with a resprayed bonnet or other panel if there is proof it was done from an authorised dealer or any other well known spray company so keep the receipt.

Only if they don't do it right - this is a Honda Approved repair, going back to be redone next week...

this is a Honda Approved repair
When I had my Civic hit on the back end I took mine to my local Honda approved repairer, owned by my local Honda dealer because they said it was necessary to maintain the paint warranty etc. I was quoted approx £450 as they said to do it right, the trims, parking sensors etc would need to be taken off. The car was with them for 2 days. Initially I thought it looked ok, but the more I looked at it the more I thought the job was pretty poor and I was never happy with it, and I could see the line in the lacquer where they had sprayed around the grey trim. I wouldn't mind betting they got it done by the Chips Away guy and pocketed the difference!

I had replaced the drivers front tyre the week before because of a puncture and when I got the car home that night noticed the tyre was deflating. On closer inspection I found the rim had been kerbed and the tyre had a bloody great plug in the centre section of the tread. It was clear that the rim and tyre had been swapped by someone at the garage - remember that the damage was at the rear of the car so no need to remove the front wheel. It was a good job I saw this on the night I got the car back, ans as you can imagine I was livid. A call first thing next morning to the paint shop manager, with threats of theft and police involvement soon sorted it out. I took the car down, they drove a brand new EX alongside and swapped the wheels over. Someone else presumably got a new car with an old wheel on it. I wish now I had just gone straight to the police!

Anyway, my point is , don't assume because it's a Honda recommended bodyshop all will be ok - stick with someone in your area you know will do a good job

Hartside - thats terrible, i cant believe a honda approved repairer would act in such a dishonest manner. Credit to you for standing up for yourself! Well done!

Oh Copand **..That's shockin.!! no wonder the guy was asking you to hand it back in.. But it shouldn't have got to you in the first place, they should have some kind of quality control.

But then again it's a HONDA approved garage..?

Oh dear there's a pattern forming...!!!

The paint looks all orange peely lumps n dumps and dirt in with the paint.

I remember a few years ago a local Honda dealer supplied my ex a new Honda Jazz and she wanted the wing mirrors painted.. They said "Aye no problem we have a chap who does our small repairs at the garage." So we aggreed to get them painted to match the rest of the car. We went to pick it up and after driving it away to a local supermarket I got out and for some reason wiped my hand across the bonnet and the pillers around the windscreen and it was all covered with off spray,I went MENTAL..!!!!

We took it back the next day and went balistic with the dealer principle who eventually got us a new replacement Jazz. When we were in with him I went out for some fresh air and caught the salesman changing the bonnet with a demonstrator Jazz the same colour.. Unbelievable!!

The paint repair guy had painted it around the back of the garage with a few sheets of newspaper over the windscreen and sprayed it out in the open...F**K.!! I wonder how many other cars were covered with off spray..??

We had to wait 4 weeks for it though but and managed to clock up a few thousand miles on the duffer one. Shame thou as it was a great we car before they gave it an extra coat..! She also got flowers.. 3 years free servicing a tank of fuel 12 months road tax, mats and a spoiler from the dealer colour coded from Honda direct..! And a thousand appologies..!

It went without saying we kept the next one as it came from the factory with the black mirrors.

Anyway hope all goes well and you get it sorted right this time.

Rgds Al.

It can't be easy for a quality bodyshop to do a matched paintshop on a flat colour Honda Civic. Matching the orange peel must take talent

I had an 08 Loaner in black and its amazing this type of finish is possible still in this day and age.

Hartside, I'm surprised you didn't call the police, but then again, would they be interested ?. I just don't like people getting away with this sort of thing. By the way, have you checked you still have the same engine ?.
