My VW Bora had none after 34,000 miles
My mate's BMW 5 series (New shape) is stonechip free after 50,000 miles!
My CTS is covered in them and its only 10 months old
Simple fact .......HONDA PAINT IS CRAP!!
I agree, Robbo! My Fabia has no chips and it has done nearly 70,000km! Scratches by an over zealous, James Bond driving style wife, but no stone chips

I didn't realise how thin the paint was until I saw I nice large stone chip on my car yesterday!!!!! I am going to raise this with the dealer when it goes in to have it's tyres changed from winter to summer.

I don't care what people say about how advanced new paints are these days. They are all water based, and are getting worse. I have been driving and owned cars for over 22 years, and the paint finish and quality has got worse! I have owned Ford, Peugeot and now Honda cars, and with each new car its getting more and more cr*p!

Don't even get me started on removing birds muck, this can be hell and leave a perm. mark!

My Seat Leon has 90000 miles on it and has about 2 or 3 small stone chips. I'm dreading how my soon-to-be-gotten Civic will look in a few years time.

You need one of these:

Honda Car Bras - *Car Bras Front End Cover Car Bra Bug Shield Auto Bras Nose Mask Hood Bra

I had one on my 1991 Civic 3 door. Some people will like them, some will hate them, but they do the job. Bit of a pain to take off and put on if you're washing your car (although you don't need to)

Not sure if you can get one for the 5 door, but you get the idea.

Out of all the cars i've had, i can safely say i've never had so many stone chips in all my life with the Civic.
Vauxhall Nova had a couple after 8000 miles
Ford Escort Mk5 none after 12000 miles
Ford Escort Mk6 none after 12000 miles
Ford Fiesta Mk5 a couple after 12000 miles
Citroen Xsara Picasso a couple after 10000 miles
Citroen C4 none after 12000 miles
VW Bora none after 12000 miles
Renault Laguna II Tourer a couple after 7000 miles
Mercedes Benz Axor only a couple after 100000 miles (god honest truth!!)
Civic SE front bumper looks like its been shot blasted and the bonnet looks like a dot to dot drawing without the lines

Whether its modern paint or not, this is the worst paint job i've seen on a car!!

Excellent idea but it looks ug-ger-lee. Shame you can't get it colour coded. I think i'd go for the protective film. But as customers of £15-19,000 cars the paint should with stand stone chips.

For 11 months I have been at my dealer regards stone chips and paint flaking off ( inside both doors) due to multiple managers the last of which has got a resolve. My car has had two inspections one being paint manufacturer.

The result is that the flaking paint will be dealt with under warranty but the chips are just that stone chips. Believe me I would take this further but I know when I'm wasting my time and this is one of them. Its such a subjective thing that Honda will always win out

Honda UK have been give ample time to behave in the manor expected of such a perceived quality brand. I'm off now to Google the Watchdog site for the form mentioned above.

No form found. Does anyone have any ideas on the best way we can approach Watchdog as I imagine they require a lot of complaints to begin an investigation.

I think the metallic colours are less prone. Flat red and black are the worst. I have a lot of microscopic chips which would not show on Grey they are like a needle tip end poked at the paint.

There is a new beetle a see around that has one of these fitted. It looks awful.

I'm sure the civic would too.

I emailed Watchdog when I had paint problems but didnt hear anything back, I am sure others have contacted them too from this site. Honda are not worried as they know that very few people have the finances needed to take action against them

The best thing we can do then is vote with our feet when its time to get a new car. I'm beginning to see that the Honda might offer a lot but where it counts there are serious cost cuts being made. Plastics and paint being the most obvious.

Had to laugh when it was mooted by Honda that the new Accord was aimed at the BMW/Merc market.

When it comes to other cars, you can be sure each make has their own particular issues/problems.Although it does'nt automatically mean you or me would fall victim to them-for example, after 8 months my Particular Civic is free of stonechips, you could argue it could be just moving the goal posts along to exposure to those problems, rather than the Civic's.

Mine is in next week for 3 warranty issues.Hopefully they will be resolved done and dusted. If so,and in the fullness of time should there be little else other than stone chips on the bonnet and vallence to worry about,I'll settle for that.

So far, whats been important to me is that the car has given a brilliant driver and ownership experience

For what it's worth, I have a black Civic with the same paint moan that I am seeing here. Also I have a T/99 VW Bora that has no chips/blemishes. Notch-up another fed-up owner.

We also have to remember that not only does the car have 'soft' paint, but the bonnet is rather steep in comparison to other cars which also has an impact on stone chips, but yet another reason why the paint should be harder

That's a good point, I shall borrow it assuming it's not copyright.

I believe that "soft" paint causes scratches not stone chips, hard thin paint causes stone chips.
