Stone chips?

Has anyone else suffered with stone chips on their bonnet/bumper after having only owned their pride and joy for a couple of weeks. We got one after 2 weeks and were gutted. I went back to the dealers to complain about poor quality paint work and all they gave me was some touch up paint. We now have a few stone chips

Btw, the car was only being used on 50 mph A roads at the time.

Thanks for your replies in advance

Most of us I am afraid.

Many threads on it.
Not a unique Honda problem though, most or all modern cars are more prone to chips.

Wow. I've been reading the paint related threads for a while now. I'm discussed by how a car manafacture has been able to get away with this. I think some sort of blockade (by us civic owners) to the honda dealers should be happen and then see what these f****** would do with potential new customers coming in to test drive their dodgy painted product.

We should also put bricks behind our wheels, just in case the handbrake fails.

However, this is not only a Honda issue. Modern enviormentally friendlier paints are weaker than older paints.

For example, I was also looking a Merc A-Class when buying the Civic.
Looking at the bonnet of 1-year old second-hand cars in the show room was interesting - loads of touch up on every one.

I'm interested to know whether there are any colours more or less prone to stone chips. Would it be possible to have some sort of poll and then we may see atrend, as was done with the 'wiper on footbrake' thread.

It begs the question of what sort of paint do high end manufactures like Beamer's, lexus's, Jag's use. I can not imagine their customers tolorating this nonsense. Unless the manufactures cake on the paint for higher end cars they must still be using enviroment UNfriendly paint

Someone mentioned at the Scottish meet on Saturday that Watchdog have a complaint form on their site about the Honda Paint. Think they are looking to see how many people are effected and how....then maybe just then they will go to Honda UK about it

There's nothing much you can do about stone chips, it's part and parsel of driving around on a road. You can buy various kits to stick on the front of the car to stop them chipping, but I gave up worrying about them years ago, they're like freckles, the more you count, the more you see!

I also tend to drive waaaay behind the car infront on the motorway, enough space to let any stones hit the ground rather than my car!

They are part and parcel of driving put the fact is I have stone chips everywhere on my car bottom of the doors, wings, skirts, bonnet and i've only done 2000 miles! like others on this site I have owned another car before which didn't chip like this and that was a new BMW Mini so it wasn't something from back in the day when they made good paint. But even BMW paint now adays isn't what it used to be............skirt on one of our cars looks almost white due to stone chips! So i'm glad mines isn't anywhere near as bad as that!

When I was cleaning the engine bay on my CTR on Sunday with a microfiber cloth as bit of paint came away Seems that the paint is rather too too soft! I did think that it had maybe been like that and I hadn't noticed but I found the 1.5cm by 4mm bit of paint stuck to the cloth!

I know on my black crv i had a nightmare with stone-chips,why do manufacturers put white primer under black paint,i guess all the cars just get primed together then they are seperated for the different colours!!I had an older silver crv and a white civic,no where near as many chips!I just hope my ctr does not get chipped to death, but i think it will.Wish they would just go back to using paint with the lead in it,much tougher!!

I agree, the paint seems very easy to damage! Likewise, the front of my car is covered in stone chips. Also, I really swirled the paintwork on my Civic (see it under Cleaning & Styling). Now, I still don't know how I got it so bad - I've had about 20 cars over the past 11 years, including several black ones, and none have swirled and scratched like this one has. Pretty annoying!
