Rear Window Delamination

I had my car hand washed whilst I was shopping on Saturday and when I returned I noticed a mark on the rear window straight away (to the lower part of the window).

It looks like the top film has been scratched and is now coming away. I thought the window was glass but it can't be as I now have what looks like the remains of a piece of stubborn sellotape on my window.

Has anyone else had this? Will the warrantee cover this repair? I'm quite upset but like to get some advice on here before I go to the dealers.

An isolated problem!! Could this be a first?!

Seriously though, any advice from anyone on if they think this might be covered under warranty or if they know of anyone else who's had this problem?

sounds like a defect - the window should be able to withstand car washes (shudder) let alone a hand wash

any pics?

Thanks for the reply TTDegs!!

I haven't taken any photos yet as the car is covered in salt again but I'll try and get some soon. The only thing I can liken it to is sellotape. Initially I tried to rub it off but it looked like it was making it worse so I haven't gone any further with it so not really sure what's going on!

Am avoiding going to the dealers at the moment as I'm still scared from all my previous visits (plus every time it goes in for something it comes out with something else). Was kind of hoping someone else had experienced this and that there was a fix that I could apply at little cost but it would appear not (which is good for everyone else!).

Take it back to the dealers, despite your fears.

That's what your warranty is for, if you dabble with it too much any warranty claim might be void.

It's the Applied exterior coating on the clear plastic that is peeling off.
Honda say it is applied to the lower section to solve condensation etc and more speedy removal of rain.

P.S. If the cleaning guy has scratched it by using a dirty sponge,-- You don't know anything about, when you take it to the dealership,as you always wash your car by hand taking extreme care.

I've tried to take a few photographs but as it's glass with the reflection of the sky and things they don't come out well at all!

I saw the cloths the guys used and I cannot see how this has happened as he didn't have anything abrasive (I only ever have my cars washed by hand).

Do you think I'll be able to claim this under warranty? If not I'm guessing it'll be expensive.

I've always been really careful with the back window as I read a long time ago someone on here having an issue with the black part of the window (turns out it's sprayed on) so when scraping ice and things I'm always ultra careful so I'm completely lost for words at how this has happened. Especially since it seems to have happened whilst being washed with a sponge!

Thanks for all of your replies. Looks like I'm going to have to go to my dealers.
