Locking my car

Got home last night, took my laptop out of the boot walking to the house the car wouldn't lock! didn't do anything! I could unlock it but when I pressed the lock button nothing. No lights, no noise nothing! thought it was the key so went and got the spare, still nothing.

Turns out the boot was not "quite" closed but I would have expected some kind of beep/flash but it just went into a sulk

Still now I know, I guess it's OK but worth keeping and eye on.

I've had that happen to me too, both with the boot and the driver's door.

i think it is a great feature that if a door/boot isnt shut properly the car doesnt lock, i always make sure that my lights flash and hear the clunk of the locks before i walk away from the car so atleast i know that if i dont get those then something isnt shut properly. xXXX

Maldax - there's a thread in here somewhere about non-closing boot doors

Basically, there are a couple of rubber 'bumper stops' on the bottom edge of the boot door, and these screw in and out.

Try screwing yours a bit further in

could not agree more. Just most cars I have had that have that option try and lock then unlock again. She just sat there sulking in a 'you don't love me any more' kinda way

I'd rather have it sulking than what the X-type Jag does. If you try to lock it with something open, you get a double blast on the horns - heart attack stuff and wakes all the neighbours up too!

It would be nice to have the auto-unlocking after you turn off the engine

You can do that.

Read the 'How To...' threads, the one about auto locking the doors also tells you how to auto unlock when you turn off the engine!

Hi Parky, is this the one ?

To turn off auto-unlocking when turning off the ignition
- Open the driver's door
- Put the key into position II
- Hold down the door unlock button until you hear two sets of "unlocking" noises. This takes about 6 seconds**.
- Turn the key back to position I

But doesn't this control disable the auto-locking permanently and then you have to reset it again.

The same procedure first activates auto-unlocking and then de-activates it and so on.

So you can try it and then disable if it's not what you wanted.

I quite like the sound of that.

Also had trouble closing my boot but adjusted the screws and it's fine now. Thanks.

I would pay a visit to the dealers and get them to check out the central locking as it sounds as if the locking 'motor(s)' could have an intermittant fault. Happened on one of my previous cars and it locked me out!

Something similar happened to mine once - I shut the boot and locked the car, then walked away....about 3 seconds later, the alarm went mental......so I went back, hit the unlock button, and it turned out the boot wasn't quite shut properly.....

How does the alarm work? i've locked the doors and went crazy inside but the alarms didnt go off.. i guess there is no inside sensor in the car? is it only activated if the doors / boot is opened?

It does have internal sensors, well the EX has (up by the front inside light). But I think they have a delay on the just incase people lock the doors and then go crazy inside

Not got ours yet, but I am sure the magic seats, and there ability to fold up, could give all sorts of oportunties to 'go crazy'
