Regards Civic 8TH users of UK.

In Spain we are following with attention the case as you can see in this thread:

www.clubhondacivic.com :: Login

At the moment there are several cases confirmed in models Type-S and Type-R of the year 2007.
We are thinking to realize a joint claim to Honda Europe since it seems to us that the case is very serious, to seeing that solution they give us

For my part, I have 5 doors of the year 2007 and do not have symptoms of rust.

Bye bye.

Ok, at the moment we have some cases confirmed so much of Type-S as of Type-R and it seems also that 5 doors are rejected.

In all that it knows something more I you will support informed

It would Be suitable on that among all (owners of one 8TH European) we were putting in agreement for if there comes the case to have to realize a joint claim.
This already is not a problem of noises in the dashboard or plastic that get scratched, is something very serious, the car can fall literally to chunks.
Bye bye.

I think if Honda doesn't come to grips with this problem FN-drivers could care their Civics in a shoe box in 2 or 3 years

ooops.... in fact it's a LHD... sorry

I know that GM's corrosion warranty covers only corrosion from the interior out rather than vice versa and this certainly is a case of the latter, however, I don't know Honda's stance on this as it is a join and under what should be a proofing/sealing strip...my 2007 MY type s gt has the same issue.......

oh dear, my 7 month old Type s has a little on both doors !!!
I swapped a ten year old volvo for this which had no rust and proper paint.
There's no way on earth that the door seam has been galvanised after it was fabricated (even if the micro thin paint had worn off it still would not rust)

I am genuinely concerned about this now.

This is not acceptable on modern cars. I've had my Type-S for about 8 weeks now and have small traces of rust on my drivers door.
"If" a zinc coating has been applied the panels won't rust at all, painted or not. This suggests that some parts of the door has not been coated at all as, I believe, the zinc does not have to coat the entire panel to protect against corrsion.

Is it worth getting the BBC's Watchdog program involved as they seem to ressolve issues when other manufacturers refuse to rectify known problems such as the faulty bonnet catch concern on Renault Clios?

Hi Everyone, this is my first post here.

I currently have an EP3, which I have enjoyed greatly over the last 2.5 years (with no problems whatsoever I might add).

After test driving an FN2 CTR and thoroughly enjoying it I bought one and it should arrive next week.

Having read this thread I'm now slightly concerned. So my question is should I check my car when I take ownership of it next week and take preventative measures to limit the likelihood of this occuring? If yes, is the best approach to get some kind of wax oil, as mentioned earlier in the thread, and coat the potential problem areas? If so what type of oil is best?

Cheers

Its not serious..dont worry.
Some basic preventative measures like some wax crammed in there will keep it at bay.
I'm not worried at all.
Keep your eye on it on a regular basis.
I use Halfords 'Chain Wax' but Waxol would be as good, if not better.

Cheers robbo51. I figured from looking at the Halfords website that I'd use their chain wax if I couldn't find anything better.

So I may well give that a go just to be on the safe side.

As Robbo says, Waxoyl is probably better ie last longer

You can also get it in small aerosol cans:

Hammerite Waxoyl Rustproofing Aerosol Clear 400ml from Halfords Price £6.99

Just checked my 5 door. No rust at the top of the doors but there is some further down the seam on the inside where the black tape folds over, about level with the bottom of the window. Only on the drivers' door.

Have you guys really taken a very close look at what is considered to be rust on the top edge.
I voted No in the poll for 3 doors, as after looking I had my doubts, but only today had time to take a proper gander at it.
It looks like rust, it tastes like rust, but comes off as clean as a whistle, with a drop of WD40, leaving the paint as good as new.
Granted, it is a dodgy seam, which should have been welted ( turned over), instead of
just left open, but on my car, as thats all I can confirm on, its certainly not rust, but the liquid wax Honda inject into the double skin sections of the cars.
Hope you all find this to be the case too.
