I voted No in the poll for 3 doors, as after looking I had my doubts, but only today had time to take a proper gander at it.
It looks like rust, it tastes like rust, but comes off as clean as a whistle, with a drop of WD40, leaving the paint as good as new.
Granted, it is a dodgy seam, which should have been welted ( turned over), instead of
just left open, but on my car, as thats all I can confirm on, its certainly not rust, but the liquid wax Honda inject into the double skin sections of the cars.
Hope you all find this to be the case too.
Then perhaps we were too vigilant this time around - or on the cars without the "rust" the wax sealing had been forgotten

I've at last collected my new Milano red TypeR GT. Checked round the doors in the potential problem areas and as I expected seeing it's new there's no rust. Although the paint in that area on the passenger side is really thin whereas on the driver side it looks like it has had a decent amount of paint applied. To be on the safe side I've put some Waxoyl on both doors to stop any chance of it happening.

However, I seem to have an annoying squeak coming from the plastic surround on the drivers instrument console. But it seems I'm not the only one from reading the other thread on the forum!

Read and follow. Might seem excessive but Milano red is the softest paint ever IMHO.

My type S is now back from getting inner door panel painted due to the paint flaking off ( unbelievable I know just an example of how crap the paint application on this model is) now its been done by a human its fine. However....you just knew I was going to have a however eh! The seal is not fitting properly in the top of the door compared with the passenger side which remained untouched and yes I have noticed the brown residue.

Hello from Greece,
I too have the Type-R 2007 and my friend jimp (civinfo member) pointed it out to me. What a shock, to see rust on a car that is only 11 months old. I Love my Honda BUT their starting to push me away with all these faults. I used to be PROUD of Honda and Proud of owning one.

My Milano FN2 has it on both doors quite badly. It's going into the dealers to get sorted on Monday after they got the go-ahead from HUK last week.

Hadn't spotted this thread before, saddened to see yet another problem. It's a bit dark to look now but i will be checking mine tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be clear of this.

I have never seen a 5door civic with rust problem on doors. It is something that affects only the 3door models. Honda should have done a better paint application on the car...

My Type R is just over a year old. Hadn't even considered looking for rust until I caught this thread. Had a look on both doors and afraid to say both have same rust problem on top door seam. 3rd gear, hand brake, door locks, rattling vents, broken door restrictor pin, tinny doors and now rust.....In all my years of driving, and some of these with second hand Fiats and Citroens I have never come across a car with such a catalogue of problems. It is just as well its such a bloody good car to drive and look at. For a Honda, its barely believable. It seems design may have superceeded function here!!!!!
