Small amount on both sides of June 07 Type-S Vivid Blue.
Passenger door rarely opened.

Just slap some waxoyl on it and don't worry about it!

I know it's annoying, but have you ever looked at the seams on your previous cars?

It's only along the seam, so as long as it doesnt progress further into the sheet metal panel, or keeping work it's way along the seam i wouldn't worry about it [1]

I sometimes have serious worries over the level of expectation of Civic owners on this forum. It's only a new car, it's better than most I've had [2] and it's not a BMW [4].

What more do you want?

Rich

[1] And i'm REALLY REALLY pedantic about my cars
[2] I exclude my Toyota from this qualification as that was in a totally different league to anything else i've ever owned [3]
[3] But then again, it was as exciting as owning a new fridge.
[4] This isn't complementing BMW

Yes, I check them about once a month as part of my main car check (my main car checks are done weekly, but I do thorough one once a month), and I take this opportunity to apply rubber cleaner/softener to the rubber strips.

I'm pedantic about my car, and no matter how insignificant it seems, I'm p*ssed off at this happening on a 5 month old car. My last BMW, was around the same price new, and was far better built and engineered in some cases although in some places the design was positively anal.[1]

It may only be a 'new car' but it cost me over 20k, hardly an insignificant sum of money, but I expect the b*oody thing to be pristine when I get it and I try to keep it that way, I also expect the thing not to rust on my driveway before it's a year old.

What more do you want?

A car tha doesn't rust????

Tom

[1] Difference in price was around 3,000 pounds.

How did you manage to spend that!? Paid less than 16.5k for a brand new type-s gt diesel from a dealer with a bloomin' good part-ex.I didn't think there were enough options to spend another 3.5k!

Nah - how much is a 1 or a 3 series to the same spec as your civic? A 120d ES is about 20.7k on discount and that probably doesn't even include a radio/cd or climate... It's more like 5-6k and that's another 30% on top of the Civic.

The point is that the outer door skin is normally folded over the inner, welded and the seam sealed. That hasn't been done here - presumably to simplify/cheapen the manufacturing process. The skins are just pressed together and welded (and sort of sealed) along the top edge. I don't think anything is going to stop the problem, and don't think there's much a bodyshop could do with the door as is. All they could do is grind it down and repaint it - it's not going to change the way the door has been manufactured.

I think i'd much rather waxoyl over the top of the existing paint/primer than end up doing the same on a bodyshop re-finish in another year.

There's no point shouting at Honda "to fix it" until someone can think of a sensible solution to the problem.
