Problems with my new (08) model??

Hi there,

Having just picked up my '08 model the other day... I'm due to go back to the dealer and get my mats fitted this week. I have noticed a few problems... I've read about them on previous posts... but I thought that issues like these would have been resolved by now. Are people still getting issues on the 08 model?

I have 3 problems...:

1) When I turn the engine on, the exhaust seems to rattle quite loudly. Then after a while it stops

2) I went to take my tom tom charger out and the whole cigerette lighter socket came out with it... now appears to be loose and not providing power 100% of the time.

3) Condensation in the rear lights (doesnt bother me, but dont want mould)

4) I washed my car today... opened the boot and was greated by a wall of water falling directly INTO the boot... is this a fault?

5) I'm not sure if its normal, but I keep noticing a sound from the back. Sounds like the windscreen is creaking (but I'm not overly sure).

So those are my issues - I have noticed them on previous posts, but I guess i kind of assumed they'd be sorted by now. Will my dealer now about these issues? And will it involve a lot of work?

Thank you and please dont get annoyed at me for repeating posts... I've know these issues have been raised... but I'm a bit miffed at how its happening on the supposedly 'new' model.

Mark

Sorry, it was supposed to be 3 problems...but I thought of 2 more as I was writing

And dont get me wrong, I love the car and I can put up with these issues simply for how great it looks and drives...

No 1 - no problem here

No 2 - is a common problem as the lighter socket is only held in very loosely and certainly not designed for the TT charger which is a tight fit. You may need to remove the centre console to securely re-attach the lighter body more securely (there is a wiki article).

Personally I would take out the centre console, cut the 2 wires to the ciggy lighter then re-join them with those chocolate block connectors. Then wire in an additional lighter socket via a spur from the chocolate block. Then replace the centre console.

No 3 - is normal, should evaporate away.

No 4 - yep - stand back and open the tailgate slowly.

No 5 - no problem here

I'm not really sure about this... the water is coming out of the plastic panelling and there is a puddle of water ON the back seats / head rests / and gathered in the boot storage compartment...

Surely that is going to damage the fabric....

looks like the 08 will be having the same faults as the 06 & o7 models, honda must like the warrenty work for there dealers, maybe this will keep them going through the ression, as plenty of rear shocks need changing and now it looks like clutches are going the same direction.

Give your sales person a call, say you need to bring it in for some things you have concerns about and explain it all thoroughly to them when you get there......

Yes they all produce some 'rainfall' but mine runs down the sides and drips mainly into the side channels.

I do get the initial series of drips from the tailgate lower edge as it's lifting but I just wait for that to finish.

I have never had any water go onto the rear seats or headrests, you didn't have a following wind ?

Yeah I understand what you mean about sidefall, that's expected. This water was coming out of the interior boot panel and falling straight down ino the boot compartment. When the boot was fully open, the angle allowed for it to go onto the back seats as well. This was after I had washed to car, so I assume that there was a lot of water collected (rather than just rainfall).

I'm going back to the dealer soon to get some mats fitted, so I will ask them about it then.

Thanks for your input!

The main problem with my 08 model is that it is to quiet! From day 1 the rear parking sensors made no sound when reversing. Today I found that the alarm also is silent - all I get is a ticking noise as all four indicators flash. (The Sat Nav and phone speak OK though.)

Has anyone else had this problem?
Is it possible both alarms share the same speaker which is not working?

My dealer is unable to get hold of a new speaker for the parking sensors and I have escalated to Honda car customer relations. Is it possible a whole batch of new Civics are out there all trying to get a working speaker - hence the unavailability.

It seems all spares come from Belgium which seems strange if the cars are made in Swindon.

I had the same thing- the centre section of the rear lights was leaking and filling with water, and also leaking into the boot, which gradually became a swimming pool! The lights were replaced twice under warranty before it was sorted. I also had problems with the boot not opening, which I am sure was due to the water ingress.

Ah well, glad to know I'm not the only one! I'm hoping that they'll know about it and be able to sort it for me...!

The parking sensors have a seperate speaker inside the car as its to let you know the car is in reverse/approaching and obstacle, not anyone else. As to if there are a batch of cars without working systems, it is possible but i doubt it.
The alarm for the car is actually the horn unit, a totally separate system. in the event of it being set off, it just sounds the horn.

So it's just a coincidence that both parking sensors and alarm are totally silent. That does seem very unlikely but hopefully the answers will be found - eventually.

Honda really do need to get to grips with parts for fixing these faults - and improve their quality control at Swindon.

I cant remember from your earlier posts if your EX is a 2008 MY or 2007?? I know its a 2008 registered car but if its a 2007 MY, then parking sensors have been retro fitted and will have nothing to do with the build at swindon. Then comes the question, have you actually got Honda parking sensors fitted???

I'd be interested to find out what is the cause of these problems too.

1) When I turn the engine on, the exhaust seems to rattle quite loudly. Then after a while it stops
Mine did that - now resolved after 18 months and several dealer visits. New parts for exhaust were eventually and VERY reluctantly allowed by Honda on dealers (repeated) recommendation.

2) I went to take my tom tom charger out and the whole cigerette lighter socket came out with it... now appears to be loose and not providing power 100% of the time.
Don't worry - thats normal

3) Condensation in the rear lights (doesnt bother me, but dont want mould)
Also normal

4) I washed my car today... opened the boot and was greated by a wall of water falling directly INTO the boot... is this a fault?
Also when its been raining - normal

5) I'm not sure if its normal, but I keep noticing a sound from the back. Sounds like the windscreen is creaking (but I'm not overly sure).
I have a load of noises, though that is not one I recognise

A big welcome to the world of the new Civic!

The old Civic was never like this!

It is a 08MY so the parking sensors were fitted at the factory. However it sounds like it is preferable to NOT have them fitted at the factory!

A silent alarm is more worrying as if the fix goes wrong I could have the alarm going off all over the place. It also, until fixed, may affect any insurance claims.

Are you sure ?

When I have accidentally set my alarm off when I've used the pressure washer before unlocking the car it sounds like a wailing alarm siren whereas the horn is like, well, a car horn.

Two seperate sound producing elements in one box ?

I have to disagree. I tested a friends EX today and the alarm is a high pitch squeal coming out of the boot area. (It definately is not the horn as used by Fords). To test the car it needs to be left for 5 minutes after locking. Then just turning the key anti-clockwise a quarter of a turn is enough to set the alarm off. The door does not need to be opened.

It's a strange situation when the correctly programmed key cannot even go in the lock without setting off the alarm. Makes you wonder why they have a door lock at all.

It would appear then that the same loudspeaker is used for both sensors and alarm. Honda economy I suppose - except that they need to start using better quality speakers that actually work!

My 2008MY has now been sorted. It needed a new speaker to get the factory fitted parking sensors working. The reason the alarm did not sound was because of faulty wiring (nothing to do with the speaker).

It certainly does not give me much comfort in Honda build quality.

If those are the only faults you have had - then build quality is indeed MUCH improved!
