I think you are correct, it may be coming from the brakes. Since day one I've notice that the brakes tend to stick alittle, and its worse after you have washed the car and have left it all night. You can hear a clonk when you first move off. Mind you it does not keep reocurring after that!

Also experience a clonk at similar conditions as cnicolini.

The hand brake must be sticking and not releasing properly, hopefully they will fix this when the car is next serviced as they should check the brakes!

Most amusing: No knock if you pull it up properly and release in < 10 degrees. A knock when the handbrake has been released for several hours in temps over 10 degrees. So it starts sticking when you don't pull it up and leave it for a while

Bear in mind I have only tested pulling it up and leaving it outside under 10 degrees. Still on the list: pulled up handbrake inside. Released handbrake outside

If you can leave it on flat ground in gear, then start off as normal in the morning, this should test whether its the handbrake. I cant, as my drive is sloping

Well now, I've finally tested this as I could leave my car at friends. And it does the single knock thing on take off under following conditions:

Car in gear on flat ground. Handbrake NOT pulled up
+ 10° temps outside
Knock occurred at +- 17-18 km/hour.

This has been tested in order to rule out handbrake issues.
Because I'm currently in a dispute with the dealers I can't have it checked anytime soon. Has anyone been able to resolve the issue?

@relaxmax. Whether the car is in gear or not, is irrelevant to the issue. It's just to prevent the car from rolling away. You might as well lay a brick behind one of the wheels. Also note it only happens once on take off.

I get the knock irrespective of gear/neutral (I have an i-Shift). Time to park without the handbrake and see what happens...

I have the exact same thing... like people have already mentioned, i have grown used to it.
It does very much sound like its coming from the front drivers side. Its pretty much one clicky sound and thats it. Im not bothered by it, i kinda expect it now and if i dont hear it, worry why??? lol

Good to know that its not just mine then

small update as to what may be the cause

Anyone ever heared of VSA performing a 'break test' after the car has stood still for a while?

Maybe a good idea for a poll

You mean "brake test" ! Nope, never heard of it. But as you say, it could very well explain the knock.

Lets try accelerating gently with the left foot slightly on the brake, and see if we feel anything on the left foot

I was advised to turn off the VSA. We could try both
