Yeah, that's where water may get in and freeze. Then squeak, of course, with the slight rubbing action. Because when the car moves steadily, no noise is heard. But when passing over a hump or having a sudden steer (which means some body deflection) then it squeaks. Might be the reason..

my plastic parts are not rubbing on the windscreen because I have added some rubber bits in between them...
no creaking sound anymore!

in the winter months the ice is still creaking there a little bit.. but after it melts it's fine again...

(I had a lot of internal noises wich were the plastic parts rubbing OUTSIDE on the w.screen)
try to clean them than add some wd-40 and/or rubber bits
you will see/hear a big difference! helps a lot!

Well, then perhaps we should try making a full-length silicon "gasket" - this should then solve the problem forever. Anyway, I'll talk to the dealer first (warranty, you know...)

I agree. My windscreen rattle is driving me mad. Still. The dealer of course can't hear it. Can anyone recommend a sympathetic dealer in the Lancashire area that has good hearing?

Maybe just one: take them back, ship them to Japan, take them apart then re-assemble and ship back

My windscreen began creaking so badly recently that I stopped the car to have a look. Turned out to be grit in the seal between glass roof and screen, fixed by cleaning and applying grease.
I guess that grit behind any of the seals around the screen will also cause these creaks.

That would mean the quality of the seals is pretty poor Never had such an issue in any of my previous cars though some were pretty cr*ppy

Is this the price we pay for such an innovative and radical design or should Honda have spent more time in the testing and development stage. The dealers too should acknowledge that the problems we have all had are not just isolated incidents as in the case of the hand brake recall, although I have not suffered this problem, I have had the recall letter due to be done early next year. If there are dealers who ignore or deny that these common problems exist, then just quote this site and demand that the problem be fixed. I agree that any repairs should first be done by the dealers under warranty, before a DIY fix is attempted just in case of problems later. I still love my Civic despite its melodious tendencies.

I just wonder why a company knowing how it's done right over years (they didn't have to re-invent the seals or the handbrake or... you name it, in order to build this car) suddenly makes so many simple mistakes, I'm afraid it's not a Civic problem, this is a "Made in Europe" problem

My rocketship has started to make the most unbelievably annoying clicking/squeaking noise

The best way to describe it is a geiger counter click noise combined with some hungry chicks begging for worms. It seems to be worse when cold and it used to stop once the cabin was warmed up but now it's there almost all the time

It sounds like it is coming from around the radio area but behind the dash somewhere because thumping/prodding/pressing the dash at every exposed point and join doesn't fix/reprodude the noise.

It is driving me insane - like the chinese torture test of solitary confinement with water slowing dripping on your head!

I really don't want the dealer ripping all the dash to bits with the risk of damaging things and/or making it worse so so far i've just tried to live with it...

Sounds like you have the same problem the rest of us are having. Some members on this thread are using Maguire’s in car dash cleaner to sort the problem. See further up the posts for details. If you don't want to take it back to the dealer, give this a go. Just be careful you don’t damage any electricals in the dash. Best take it in to the dealer first though.

Argh! Turned my radio and heater off on the way to work today to listen out for any noises. Reason is, I was going to get my 3rd gear looked at in near future, but wanted to 'save up' any problems first so I can get all work done at once, rather than back & forth from the dealers and having to spend weeks driving a Jazz.

And guess what... it seems like absolutely everything creaks and rattles, I couldn't believe it! People at work have 10 year old Peugeots bought for £2000 with less rattles than my 1 month old Civic, which is infuriating to say the least!

Anyway, aside from the rattles and the 3rd gear, I love everything else about the car so hopefully these issues can be resolved.

I know many on here have been to the dealers re. various noises, but has anyone had 100% success in getting rattles, etc, cured and not returning?

I had a bad rattle in the dash near the a-pillar (passenger side). The dealership fixed it - but the way they did it was shoddy. They rammed load of lime green sponge in between the dash and the windscreen and left a load sticking out. I had to take it back the next day to complain.

Since then I have tried to fix any rattles myself - lost all confidence with the dealership.

The dealers must be getting fed up with these types of complaints about squeaks and rattles and things not working as they should. Come on Honda sort it out for the 08 onward model.

You're right - applying WD-40 to the plastic bits helps a lot. It's surprising just how many of the creaks were coming from outside the car!

well I would like to say that all the things that we're complaining about are IMO peanuts compared to things who really count.
I have to say that my opinion about the built quality of the Honda Civic doesn't suffer from these little shortcomings. A perfect product is an illusion.
I think that my car will get very old and still be alive in 2025 ! (unless involved in an accident)

Same at me! I try to fix it by myself first and I manage it in 99% if not only in that case I go to the dealer! I hate it when they touch my car!

you are right!
but if you don't have major problems then the small problems are on top of the list! they seem big problems but no they are not... still a bit annoying sometimes, on an almost perfect car!
