Gearbox on i-CTDi Notchy

The gearbox on my Civic has been rather notchy and stiff from when I picked it up are they all like this as I can't remember what the Demo one was like. First is especially horrid is this something I should have looked at?

make sure the clutch is fully disengaged. The travel is much greater than on my previos car, which resulted in a couple of grinds and difficult gear selections to start off with.

Hello Tydo. The gearbox is one of the best features of the Civic. Changing should be very easy.
If its notchy or stiff, go back to the Dealer , and let them check it.

Mine's fine too

The demo was (from memory) not 'sprung' properly - I kept getting 5th instead of 3rd - but I've only done that once on mine

Take it in and let them have a look

One of the items on my list when I book it in soon, I find 2nd to 3rd is way too much hard work, nowhere near as easy and effortless as on a courtesy model I had with the same mileage.

I still have complaints about mine, you may recall from previous posts the reason i had a replcement car was because of gear change problems I was experiencing. On this new car I have intermittent days (few and far between) where the gears are stiff, notchy and slip in to the wrong gears, esp 2nd to 3rd!

2nd to 3rd can be iffy - sometimes when snatching the gears, y ou can hit the "gate between 1st and 3rd. Gentler hands stops this happening.

Also - I've driven quite a few civics now, with various mileage, and the gearbox does soften a bit after a few thousand miles.

Yup BG, I drove a courtesy model with 3.5k on the clock and figured that when my own reached this magic number like it recently did it would have a nice gear change like this one had....

No complaints here re the gear change. A bit notchy going into first when it is cold but smooth as silk through the rest of the gears the rest of the time.

Poejay - I think that you have got this post on the wrong thread, but the news is good. Shows that Honda seem to be listening, they just have to tackle the fog light issue, the bumper issue the . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
