I have had trouble with mine for the past 3 or 4 fill ups and today I just could not get it open and pulled the handle clean off the inside of the car Spoke to the garage and they had taken it today to check and said they are going to fix a new leaver and a new filler cap has been ordered which they are going to fit on Friday.

Very good service I would say!

Mine will be replaced this Friday. They've ordered a new filler cap and whatever else they need to replace. Fingers crossed.

Just had mine replaced by Chiswick Honda and it seems much better! Only thing is that they replaced the whole flap assembly with an updated version and chipped my paint work in the process!

Apparently it's a very tight fit and needs prising out. At least they were honest and upfront, they have done an excellent repair and even 'invisibly repaired' a scuff I had on the rear bumper FOC. The standard of work is very high and unless told, nobody would know!

So it seems Honda have modified the whole cap assembly, yet have created an additional problem of damage when the dealer tries to remove the old.

this is why i will try all methods possible before i let mine go in and be done, dont want the hassle of another problem after sorting this out. wait a while and let them get used to doing the mod on the new cars, they should be able to do it without damaging the car then.

my silicon spray is still ok and flap is opening with minimal lever pull.

The fault lies with the flap and not the cable or the lever, pulling the lever harder doesn't help; it will break.
Hopefully Honda will get a fix soon as I'm fed up pulling the flap open or using two people to open it. I'd go for the no change fix too if there was one.

Good to see Honda fix one problem by creating another one. Brilliant!

My filler cap will have to wait. Received a phone call from the dealer today. They hadn't received the parts yet so I re-scheduled for Tuesday. Wait and see, I suppose.

Trouble is, I'll have to re-fuel before Tuesday no matter how economically I try to drive.

Hi All,
Dealer ordered my filler cap friday 12th. Went to dealers today and a brand new cap fitted and working ok. While waiting for it, tried to open one on a new civic 3 door and it would not open.

Smile Filler caps again..

I've had the filler cap problem on my Civic as well. The pin retracted fully but the flap just refused to open. I phoned Greenacre Honda in Blackburn on Friday afternoon - they fitted a new one on Saturday morning. I had a coffee and a browse around the showroom and was on my way by 09:15.
Well done Greenacre - that's the sort of service which brings customers back...

I just pull it open (does take a bit of force and is worrying), one day it'll break; so best get it changed before before it does.
DONT PULL IT!

At least not without using something to keep the lever operating.

My stealer has said that one guy ripped his cap open and broke the retaining clip!

Sure it would get replaced, but until then his fuel storage would not be very secure.

Fuel Flap Duster anyone?

What a fun morning I had... NOT! Set off at 8.10am with the intention of filling up and getting to the office for 8.30am through the snow/ice...

Would my foam-fudged filler cap open on the forecourt? Would it heck, even when I jammed my key wallet to hold the lever open I couldn't budge it.

Luckily this time I had 24 miles remaining so diverted my route direct to Devries Honda and one of the mechanics came out and tried the rapid pulling on it which "normally" works, he then asked me to hold the lever while he prised it open which took some effort.
Told me he'd had loads of Civics with this problem all the time.

Service reception said they could get the new filler part in tomorrow, said it needed to come in for some remaining warranty stuff anyway so it's now booked in for Monday.

I eventually got to the office at 9.15am!!!

Fedorov, sounds like you need a new cable assembly as well as a new cap.

It's obviously something to do with the adhesion of the inside of the cap to its closed area.

WD40, French chalk all assist, short term, in its release, redesign seems to be the answer.

I'm not getting mine done 'till the first service, slight controllable grief 'til then.

Got me trusty duster.

try this, mod number 2 for me;

spray the locking pin with silicon spray, then put this of a cloth that you have just waxed the car with around the silver filler cap and then on the 4 rubbers which this sits on. it seams it sticks to these and the spring just isnt strong enough once it has stuck to the rubbers.

Tried that as well.

Didn't last.

Had to ring the garage to-day, the fuel filler cap that they fitted before christmas had well and truly stuck on me, managed to get it open eventually. Told I was the 1st to have problems after the fitting of the cap. Funny that I was also the first to have water going into the boot via the hatch glass. Anyway going to order a new cap and then arrange fitting.

I also rang Honda CS they told me that there is now a completely modified cap available which will cure the problem. Fingers crossed.
