Filled up last time and made sure the fuel cap tether wouldn't interfere with fuel cap opening next time.................
....................went to fill up this evening and it just wouldn't budge. Eventually when I finally managed to get it open found the inside covered in masking tape, must have been from recent repair. Now I don't know if the tether was in the way, if the masking tape affected opening or if the filler cap is just another dud From the posts on here my instincts are, its a dud |

Honda's hi tech wonder product, it cures non opening fuel filler doors, poor HFT microphone performance & punctures. It could help with the front & rear light/reflector covers which foul the bodywork and even protect the super soft paintwork from chipping far too easily. Also, especially for our Charles, it could substitute for the lack of rear wiper in the form of a sponge.
What is this hi tech wonder product that is Honda's panacea for many of the Civic's ailments ? FOAM! wonderful foam. |

FOAM.
If you saw the Brochure book 1 for the Civic, it contains a mysterious sheet of black foam. What's that all about then ?. Well, cut into pieces it is excellent for stopping various squeeks around the internal trim. I've only got half a sheet left now. |

You can add me to the list. It's taking progressively more pulls on the lever to get the filler cap open. Probably not too long until it fails for good. I'm hoping it will hold out until the first service when they can keep the car until they've got that and all the rest fixed.

Mine too, first it was two pulls and last time I had to pull three times. I'm now dreading the idea of going to fill up and not being able to. Must try it tomorrow so I won't be totally out of petrol.

Maybe it's part and parcel of Honda's drive to move away from fossil fuels? Think about it...the Civic can truly be described as environmentally friendly as you can never fill the damn thing up!
Copycat got it in one when he said he's "dreading" the thought of filling up and not being able to. How many others feel like already I wonder? Moreover, is there going to be a fix for the fix of the fix? Tip of the Day: Buy shares in foam.... |

My 'Millie' suffer from the 'Faulty Filler Cap' syndrome on her last fill up.
The lever operates the locking button correctly but the Filler Cap itself remains shut. To get over the problem of constantly returning to the cabin to pull the lever, I held the lever 'open' with a duster. Then the Cap itself can be easily coaxed open. Not the permanent solution, but an interim answer to the embarassing problem. "I changed my headlights the other day. I've installed strobe lights instead. Now when I drive at night, it looks as tho' everyone else is standing still!" Charles H. |

I agree with Charles. If you happen to have the problem at a full service station here in Europe, it's all a bit embarrasing. So I'll be packing a duster from now on. Well done that man!

My service "engineer" used the key fob leather as in your duster. Asked me to hold onto it while he pulled the lever to stop the keys scratching the paint. Down to about 12 miles left so needed some fuel
