First the HFT microphone bodge. Now the Fuel filler bodge. Add Honda's pre-fitted tyre gunk bodge and you really wonder whatever happened to Honda's build quality reputation. Last edited by Ancient Nerd; 6th November 2006 at 23:30. |

Honda's build quality reputation came from cars built in Japan, and to a lesser extent the USA. UK built cars obviously have more than a touch of the Longbridge reputation!

There is a pic posted earlier in this thread of a 'New filler cap/flap' that looks just like one fitted to my car. Could someone post a pic of the 'old' filler cap/flap as I would like to know the difference |

Well, the Jazz was originally built in Japan, though I'm not sure if American plants are now building the US version (called Fit). The new CR-V is going to be built at Swindon though.
I also read that the last Swindon built Civic topped the reliability charts, based on the cost of repairs versus the number of garage visits. And I doubt Honda would create another 700 jobs at Swindon if they didn't have faith in the plant! |

There was mention of building the Jazz/Fit in China - country that is not Royal Doulton!
Of all the Hondas owned over the years the build quality has always been good but the best, in my opinion, was my wife's Japanese built Jazz. |

Yes, Bassa, I agree. My 2002 Jazz was fabulously built. And it was actually one of the first examples imported into the country. No doubt it helped that the Jazz had already been on sale in Japanese market for a year, so even with early UK models, they already knew how to build them well.
And, of course, there were no problems with the filler cap. You needed a key to open the cap, while the exterior flap locked with the central locking. Worked well!! |

Yep, great little car the Jazz - absolutely squeak & rattle free - screwed together like a Honda should be.
We had the Sport with the CVT transmission - an absolute delight. No wonder it scores so well in all the surveys. Also, it had a rear wiper (with washer jet Mr Harding), spare wheel and TWO seat back pockets! Fuel filler worked so well - never gave it a thought. Going off thread a tad - be in trouble - Jazzinfo.com ? |

Yes, Bassa the two seat back pockets. Now that was luxury! Actually, my Sport had really nice (blue) interior upholstery. Felt like it would last and last. And the seats were like Captain's chairs! Actually I quite miss the old girl and the way she was built

Hi jayt
Our Jazz was the first one we had bespoke leather fitted by Transform. Also had the Honda Sat Nav. dealer fitted. Was a very smart little car and like you still quite miss it - but overall I'm very pleased with the Civic - think we just take pleasure in moaning about any faults however trivial they may be - it'll teach us not to buy a new model so early on? - probably not. Just to get back on topic, I'll mention the 'fuel filler cap' --- so there. |

My fuel cap (on a June 2006 2.2 CDTi) has started these last few weeks playing up on me. I took it to Curtis Honda to get fixed, mentioning that I wasn't overly happy with the foam solution. They got back to me saying my car came after the foam problem was supposedly resolved and i'm to get a new cap as they contacted Honda regarding it! Thought you might be interested. I'll just have to see how the new cap works when i get it fitted.

Don't get your hopes up too much. I've got a new cap and it's stuck closed two times out of four so far. What next - replace the whole car (keeping the new fillercap, obviously)?

Mine has just started playing up after 7 months of ownership aside from the duster modification is there anything else (short of smashing the cap with a hammer) that will fix it?

When the stock comes in!
I've sprayed the hinge part of the flap with WD40......seems to help. "There are two things no man will admit he cannot do well: Drive and make love!" (not at the same time anyway!) Charles H. |

Got it sussed. If it gets stuck pull the lever fully open then reach around the back with your fingers until you feel the cable. With the lever fully open push down on the cable as hard as you can and the cap flies open. Seems to have unstuck mine as it worked fine for the next 5 times I tried it.
