I borrowed a brand new 1.4 the other day and it took 8 trips back and forth before I got it open. Odd thing is my relatively old car (March build) has never suffered. But it has loads and loads of grease everywhere - wonder if that's the magic formula?

I think its time for a mod of the mod, mod.
I have never heard of a long Bowden cable installation without adjustment at one end. Even change of temperature will cause some change in length and possible malfunction. I wonder if the designer of the fuel filler cap system still works for Honda; I have my doubts. Tony |

Just a joke really. Mines come back with no fix and promise of a new cap. Which means going in again and probably driving that bloody Honda Jazz again. Does it not like wind!
Least me rattle's gone. |

The flap just isn't springy enough, the cable works fine and just locks the flap due it not springing open when released. Luckily being a diesel driver I don't fill up all that often so whilst it annoys me I get over it, til the next time when it opens.
I have thought about making a small block to hold the lever open whilst I walk round to the flap. |

I didn't quite get away with giving them the courtesy car back after 4 days with less petrol in that it started so I offered to pop round the corner in it while I waited for them to finish cleaning mine and would you believe it, couldn't get the damn filler cap open, my final 4th attempt it opened otherwise I'd have given it back with no fuel back in

I got mine "repaired" yesterday. I told the dealer that the foam fix has been reported to be a waste of time but he said that he could only repair it as directed to by Honda Ireland. When he had finished, I told him not to put the foam away yet, the two cars on display were not working as I had tried them while he was away!! All he could do was look embarrassed.

My dealer told me that the foam is a temporary fix whilst they await delivery of a replacement filler door (waited a week).
The foam is not the fix...a replacement door is the fix. Took them half hour to replace the filler door which is how long it took me to sit down and drink their free coffee. |

Call out the garage
What I think we all should do is when the cap jams call the garage out I know this would be a pain but it is getting time for a protest
I have had my civic for seven months and have been quite good not caused any trouble at the dealer. He has done his best and apart from his suggestion to take him to court he can not offer fixes to some problems. He tells me the dealers are not getting the backup from honda and are waiting for fixes So after christmas I shall have to think about getting what i paid for I know I bought the car from the dealer and he is responsible but if hasn't got a cure what can you do I am lucky I have had my cap changed but if I had not I would of called out the garage or the aa if we all did this I bet we might get some action But the way honda are carrying on maybe not |

Next step is go to the garage, but I will do that when I bring it in for service, otherwise I have to leave work early and compensate the lost hours..... |

I had my filler cap replaced last month by Honda (or so i was told) and have started to have the problem come back but not every release.Rather than take it to Honda again for the repair i have filed about 1mm of the actual locking part of the cap which latches on to the release. It now opens every time without fail.
