Longest time spent in a dealership

My FN2 has been in a couple of local dealerships for a grand total of 13 weeks (just over 3 months), and still having on going issues, can anyone beat that?

Mine spent around that long at the dealer, but over 18 months (battery discharge problem). It was never fixed and I eventually rejected it.

That is quite a record I think! Why haven't you rejected the car and got a new one?

I have a list of many things, some I have mentioned on here, others have have been done by one of the dealers which I will not mention as I am thinking of getting a solictor on the case hence the car is now at another dealer. The car is a Mid Sept 57 plate, as for getting a replacement I have spoken to trading standards and its a no go unless you reject the car within the 1st month. Dealers will continously try and repair the car not replace it unless the cost of the work is greater than the car.The problem I have is no one has successfuly fixed the problems they just keep coming back normally after only a couple of days or 10 or 20 miles.

So sorry to hear that, really I am.

Let's hope you get it all sorted sooner rather than later

Are they even working on it?

Did you get a replacement car free of charge? (If not I believe they won't even care if it sits around for weeks on end while they fix nothing)

Hope it gets sorted in the end.

I'm not sure if that's the case. I rejected my first Civic 7 months after purchase. My problems (mainly recurring flat battery) only came to light after about 3 months of use. You've got to be very firm with the dealer you bought it from, as they will try to fob you off with excuses.

After giving my dealer a deadline to work to (which passed), I told them to stop any further work on my car, as I was formally rejecting it under the Sale of Goods act. The dealer initially told me I'd have to take them to court if I wanted to get my money back. I told them that I wasn't put off at all by that threat, and after some further negotiation the dealer offered me a new like for like replacement which I accepted on the condition that if the new car had the same fault as the old car, I would be expecting a full refund. This was accepted, and I received my new car. The new car has been significantly more reliable than the first one. In the end, no solicitors were involved.

My advice would be to make sure you've got detailed records of all dealings you've had with the various dealers in case you do need to go to court (what dates it's been in the garage for repair, what they've done to the car in that time, any verbal communications etc).

You must also give the dealer you bought the car from a 'reasonable' opportunity to repair the car before rejecting it. If you haven't done so already, write a letter to the dealer you bought the car from (copy Honda customer services) advising them of problems you've been having and giving them a deadline to respond to your letter, and a deadline in which to repair the car otherwise you intend to reject the car as unfit under the Sale of Goods Act. You then need to follow through on your threats.

You really deserve a new car out of them!

Good Luck.
