okay i have just returned from the dealership (yesterday), anyway i meantioned about this problems... here it goes!
Basically my car has an issue... the boot door doesnt shut correctly until it is slammed! (long story, but it was hit from behind and well considering there was no visible evidence, there was damage to the inside and now it doesnt correctly shut) so when i showed them that my alarm doesnt sound, lights flashing and all... they said to me the reason for the alarm not working is because of my boot issue!!! yep!!!! Bearing in mind, my boot DOES shut, just needs an extra bit of force, then what are they talking about... The other day, i left the fuel cap open to test it, locked the car and left my kids in it, hey presto... lights flashing, no noise... because the fuel cap was open, the alarm doesnt sound! So last night tested it all again... this time, religously closing every nook and cranny our cars have and once again left the kids in there (i dont make this a habit, i use them for research purposes...lol) and YAY ALARM SOUND!!!! Just to make this fair... i opened the fuel cap again and locked it, and there you go... lights, no sound!!! So what have got out of this... i havent a clue! But the principle shows that if you havent secured your car in every way possible then the alarm will not alert you! Otherwise this experiment was a complete waste of time and there is obviously a problem... Breakfast time... im hungry!!!! |

Just back from my local stealer and after considerable debate and a major lack of consideration for my concerns they took the car into the garage and agreed there was a problem that they were "unaware"

Just tried a test with a colleague who has a '56' plate EX.
Drivers window down, set the alarm, wait 30 seconds, stick your hand through the open window. His: siren + hazards Mine: Nothing. Even reached in and scratched at the ultrasonic sensors. Nothing. Unlocked the door from the inside, and opened. I just get the hazards and NO siren. |

Its becomng evident that we have opened a can of worms and is not an isolated case, please all keep all feedback coming even if your alarm is ok. Its looking like the fault is on late 07 cars and most 08's

Just to re-iterate what I said before, my alarm goes off (lights flash and horn beeps intermitently for 30 secs) if a door is opened without the key. There are however no sensors near the rearview mirror/interior lights, and also the "siren" that people mention is actually the horn on my car. Don't know why there would be a separate siren. The owner's manual states that if the doors are opened with the remote, or the driver's door is unlocked with the key, then the alarm will not go off (obviously). If a door is opened any other way, from inside for example, or if the radio is removed, or even if the bonnet is opened, then the alarm will go off.
Don't know if that helps at all... oh and this was standard on the car from the factory. |

I wonder if there's a problem with these latest batches of alarms being installed to these cars??? There even may be a recall soon if more people have these issues! |

I've tested mine and locked myself in, then arm the alarm and tried to open door from inside and horn sounds. Good.
But I found that I have sensors close to the interior lights and I was trying to trigger them by knocking but noting happened. Does anyone knows the way I should test them to see if they are working? I have a 2.2 Sport model (Dutch) |

Just tested mine (CTR July 07) and it works fine.
As soon as I unlocked the door with the key the siren went off (didn't even open it). And I tested it with the driver's window open and the motion sensors set off the siren. Flashing hazards both times. That's a relief. |

New siren to be fitted, so that means they need to order it and fit it. Good job I have a 1.4 Civic and not the Jazz Auto they were going to give me.

Honda said apparently the sensors don’t switch on if the windows are down, so they cant be tested that way. You need to sit in and keep still for 2 mins then move ! I still don’t believe them on this though

Just got mine booked in for next Monday.
No alarm (horn or siren), and the interior sensors don't seem able to detect anything. The dealer didn't know of any alarm problems. |

windows down, alarm on, wait 2 minutes, wave arms through window. He said that should trigger the alarm - it didn't! As an aside. I made the mistake of telling some people at the pub last night about my alarm doubts. They practically rolled the car over. Guess what, no alarm! |

I am now aware of the Ultrasonic sensor function test, I found it by Googling. This involves opening driver’s window, closing doors and locking the doors. Then wait a while about 25 seconds or so, then put your hands inside the window. The alarm should sound, if it does not they should replace the ultrasonic sensor. Funny thing is that they didn’t know about this procedure, its common place with all Alarm sensors on all cars. Idiots
