Creaking Front + John Banks Cambridge = Problem Solved!

Hello,

My Civic started creaking from the front at around 20,000 miles and got progressively worse up to its recent service at 25,000 miles. I wrote about it here:

Strange noise

The noise was basically a creak somewhere between metalic flexing, splintering wood, and an electric arc welder that accompanied every low speed maneuver that wasn't in a straight line. (i.e. braking and accelerating at low speed was fine - unlike people with sub-frame bush issues, by the sound of things - just steering, particularly to the left, caused the creak).

Anyway, just got the car back and the problem has been solved. Full marks to John Banks Honda Cambridge, they did a great job, listened to me and fully investigated the problem.

They initially thought it was the steering rack. They had a Honda technical team come and look at it and they finally isolated the problem to a cross-threaded bolt on a steering rack bush. New bush & bolt AFAIK and the noise has gone!

Hope this might help someone solve their creaking front. Otherwise, I recommend a trip to Cambridge, John Banks's technicians know what's going on

My 06 civic, from John Banks Cambridge too, also has that problem. Will be taking it down this week methinks... sounds horrible!
