Dry cracks in the leather on the steering wheel?

Hi all!
Does anyone here have cracks in the leather on the steeringwheel?
Just like really old leatherboots or something. To me it sounds strange that a 2 year old car has that kind of fault..??

At least this is what my local Honda-mechanic told me when I asked him about the marks on the steeringwheel I found when I picked my car up after service! I suspect that one of his mechanics have been careless but he claims it's normal wearing...and that he's seen a lot of other cars with that kind of cracks. If so, can I claim the 3-year guarantee from Honda on this one??

If it wasn't like that when you took it in to be serviced, I would say it was definately due to the mechanic being careless.

I would question this with your dealership and point out to them it was fine before they serviced it.

Yeah will be covered under warranty, at least It was when a previous car of mine had some stitching come loose on the steering wheel.

Just for the future if leather starts to dry out Ive heard rubbing a small amount of baby oil into it will re-moisture the leather.

Christ you guys are fast!
I too believe that it was caused by a careless mechanic but it's my word against his so...
Oil on the steeringwheel?? Naa...pass. And even if I (or the dealer) am supposed to treat the leather with some kind of leatherpolish, shouldn't it say so in the manual or be included in a normal service?

Get in touch with them and tell them you are really unhappy about the damage and see what happens

I was told Nivea was best for leather, always told to treat it the same way as you would your own skin, ie no harsh cleaners and moisturise.

good to hear you got it sorted, I actually noticed a scratch in the leather of my steering wheel today. Dont know what caused it, looks like something sharp has been dragged against the wheel...

I would recommend you to go to Magnussons in Surte. They will take photos of it and consult Honda whether it should sort under warranty or not.Really helpful and friendly guys! Maybe its exactly the same kind of scrathes that I had? I'll try and post a picture of mine..

Their guess was as good as mine.Leather beeing overstretched, drycracks due to sunexposure (in Sweden...) etc.
They didn't argue about it, they replaced it right away as soon as Honda said OK !
