Cool Swindon Poor Build Quality

I have found a number of build problems with my car since I've owned it:

1. Rear trim in the boot not fitted properly and broken.
2. Sound proofing under the bonnet not fitted correctly and loose.
3. Missing bolt on engine cover.
4. Screen wash nozzel loose and not fitted properly.
5. untightened bolt on drivers door which keeps the door from fully opening.
6. scratches on rear spoiler caused by the protective covering from the factory.
7. loose front body kit and incorrectly fitted.
8. loose protective panel under the engine, missing screw.
9. rear arch body kit not pushed in correctly.

How do they built our cars in Swindon, they should take it all back to Japan where people actually take care in their work?

Fully understand your concerns although the last generation Civic was built in Swindon and that was a class leader in reliablity

Seems to be 2 diffterent things. Some cars are built solid and some not so solid

Exactly, my EP3 was faultless...it appears the CRV is OK too

Hmm I had a CTDI of the previous model and it was most certainly not faultless. Moreover, it suffered comparable issues to the current model:

  1. Faulty 3rd gear syncro
  2. Damaged(sractched/scuffeld)panels here and there. Note that some panels are sratched on identical places:s.
  3. Rattles all over the place
It appears that Honda have no problems using panels that are slightly damaged. I'm sure the workers at Swindon can't be blamed for all of this (note remark 2).

This is what separates Honda from a premium brand (aside from the sometimes bad service): (oh and I'm not a BMW fan) - BMW would just throw the panel away and put in a new one

You have a valid point , somebody should be getting shafted for this.

Must admit that this is my first Honda and very likely my last. Far too many problems - much more than the two renaults I had previously.

Whilst the styling is class leading, the problems are far too many for the price and for a name like Honda. Next for me is sure to be a second hand BMW, good solid cars with outstanding reliability.

Are all models of Honda for the European market made in Swindon?

I think I should have tested BMW 118i, which seems to be a good car. But I did not like the styling.

I posted this before, it's a picture of some white sealant which is supposed to seal the joint alongside it. There's only one way this sort of poor quality can occur.

Not all models for Europe are made in Swindon.

I don't know if I'm luck or not but so far after 7 months no problems except few rattles here and there. Maybe because my car was taken apart few times for various upgrade. Don't really know. I hope it will remain this way.

NO

Civic & CR-V are build in Swindon ( CR-V's are well built - superb)
Civic Hybrid built in Japan
Accord is built in Japan (& China I think)
FR-V built in Japan
S2000 built in Japan
Legend built in Japan
Jazz built in China

one of the dealers may change some of this - but the only cars built in swindon are the Civic and CR-V

My 2005 Swindon built Civic (previous shape) has been totally reliable. However, there were quite a few trim rattles from day one.

Hope my new Civic doesn't rattle! (4 weeks to go...)

This is the first civic generation about what I heard many many faults , but the biggest problem is the poor build quality . I think they used the " everything for the eye but nothing for the hand " (this is a Hungarian figure of speech what I don't know is it exists in the English language) principle . "Somebody must of been having a bad day at the factory" why may the Japanese worker's bad day not be?? Or the English quality control ISO???? (in Swindon) is maybe limping somewhere ? Actually my ufo is about one month (1400 Km) old and I did not experience any fault , rattle etc.So you can call me a happy civic owner (I hope not just yet)

The workers most probably all went out on the town the night before and got totally drunk, then did nt feel like working the next day!
