Water Leak Inside - A-Pillar

A few days ago I noticed a water stain on the roof fabric, just where the top of the a-pillar (passenger side) ends and the roof begins.

Well, today I got back to the car after work and found this area soaking wet (been raining all day). I went straight to Honda while it was wet to point it out. They had never come across this before and will phone HUK tomorrow. They suspect that the water is coming from the top of the windscreen.

My only slight concern is that I put a small (50p size) piece of sponge in that area to stop a squeak. Maybe this is connected, but anyway there is no way that water should be INSIDE the car is there? This is also the same area that the dealer looked at to fix a rattle. I've just removed the sponge to remove the evidence just in case .

Has anyone else had this problem??

Nope never had this problem as they usually have drainage holes incase this happens.

I wouldn't be surprised if the sponge has caused this cause its stopping the water from running away. Still you shouldn't expect things like that to happen.

I hope they sort it, but God knows what they will do about the lining

I managed to get rid of the previous water stain using carpet cleaner. But the idea of them removing the roof lining fills me with dread!!

I've only noticed water running down the windscreen next to the pillar to the right of me when sitting in the drivers seat... The water appeared about half way down the windscreen and ran down the screen to the dash. But I haven't seen it since. Weird..!!

No other leaks discovered so far...

Well, since removing the sponge the wet patch has started to dry out...despite it still raining (is it really July).

I think you are right angie4m, there must be a gutter or something that the sponge came into contact with.

I'll have to own up to Honda tomorrow , rather that than let them mess about with the roof lining.

Well hopefully this is all it was and it will sort itself out. Only reason I said thats what I thought it was is due to the fact all modern cars have a gutter to let the water run away and you usually find it dripping down from under the car

If I read this correctly.........

This makes me laugh, you have a problem that clearly needs sorting. Why phone 'daddy' ?

Investigate and sort it and replace any damaged parts.

Then report the issue to Honda.

The issue of water coming in via the A pillar / windscreen is well known.

The dealer is issued with TSBs and "Hints and Tips", which they are meant to read (but clearly haven't). Furthermore, this leak can cause water to go into the multiplugs that connect the door loom to the dash harness, causing corrosion and ultimately the good old flat battery problem.

So it sounds like I need to get it check out regardless of the sponge?

Still waiting for a call from the dealers...

Definitely get it checked. My guess would be that the sponge was doing what sponges do, soak up the water, which is now going somewhere else.

Yep!

A good dealer will have it sorted very quickly. Looks like you need to find one though...

I gave up waiting and phoned the dealer in the end.

Having spoken to 'Honda Technical' they now want to take a photograph of the area. Is something to do with claiming on the warrenty? I dont know what they want to photograph as the water has now dried out!

They said it will need a new windscreen (i.e. resealing). Sounds about right.

When I asked if anyone else had reported this problem they said 'one or two'.

Well, I got my windscreen resealed and today is the first chance I've had to check the car (been away a week and it was raining when I picked it up).

There were a whole load of issues and I'm not happy at all!

- The black strip on the drivers side is dented slightly and not fitted correctly above the drivers door.
- There are paint chips down the driver side a-pillar (looks as though they have prized the black strips off with a screwdriver or something).
- Inside, the dashboard was a complete mess, and I now have fine scratches down the a-pillar covers. The windscreen was not cleaned inside or out - glue and such all over it.

I'm going to go back in on Monday and complain. I think I'm going to ask for the dealership manager as I'm getting sick of the quality of workmanship from this dealer.

I dont know how best appoach this...any ideas people?

Firm but polite normally works

Show them how dissapointed you are with the workmanship and make sure you imediately ask to talk to someone who can make decisions in the dealership and don't leave till you get a decision. That normally rattles them.

With other cars, where I have not been happy with the workmanship, I have phoned the Dealership Manager, who sometimes was the Owner of the business and made an appointment to go through the issues.

Yes, that might be a good idea.

Take it back immediately.

Hopefully you wont have to...
Good luck

Yep!

I'm actually seriously considering selling the car at just 12 months of ownership. Totally sick of visiting the dealer, sick of Honda, and getting sick of the car. The whole 'new car' experience was wrecked from day one.
