Loud metalic click under braking

Has anyone experienced a loud metalic click under braking and then again when moving off, this happens all the time to mine now but was just under hard braking before. I can actually feel the click in drivers seat too.

It's booked in on Friday for this to be checked out and have the handbrake reacall at the same time, I'll post the outcome. In the mean time does anyone know what it may be and if it's a poetentially dangerous fault ?

At first I thought it may be a stone stuck in the brakes, but re-reading it does not really sound like that...

Is it a "metalic" click?

Yes it's a metalic click with a single vibration. Worrying.

This is quite a common problem. My wifes 1.8 se had exactly the same noise. There is a bolt that goes through the cross member into the front sub frame. This bolt works loose. It's located just left of the drivers feet, obviously under the car.

That makes sense as although it happens under braking it almost feels like it's in the cab I'm going to explain to the dealers what you have said. If it's a common fault they should already know really and check it on the service.

I'll post the outcome.

This is interesting, as I get this too, but only under hard braking, and hard acceleration (following the hard braking) - very disconcerting noise - always makes me stop pratting around though (which is probably a good thing ).

It's quite a distinct noise isn't it - problem with it, it that it is loud enough to grab your attention, and thinking something is then about to fall off!!

Do you have any pictures?? Is this something I could adjust myself or does it need to go to the garage??

mine was fixed by greasing a certain part of the subframe, as touching only screws made either the problem better or worse, but never fixed. see following thread for the story.

Please Any Ideas? Knock/Creak/Tap from Front!

I have the bulletin at hand with pictures and all if one wants. I guess someone should definitely drop it on the wiki.

could it be that your brake pads have worn out?

i read in the manual that we have acoustic brakes and when brake pads are almost completely worn, we can hear a metalic noise coming from the brakes (when applying them) signaling a replacement

grtz

No - the acoustic brakes will make a continous noise for as long as you are braking. You may also feel something though the brake pedal...???

Thanks. I've printed the item and will be taking it with me to the dealers tomorrow. I have mentioned it before, on the last service, but they " couldn't replicate the fault" How many times have I heard that !

Cured. It was the sub frame bolt on the right hand side but the dealer corrected both just in case, he said that this involved packing the bolts with grease and the washers were replaced.

The dealer had never heard of the fault so I presented him with a print out from the wiki. He thanked me upon his return and had found it on Honda's bulletin.

With the hand brake recall also done I shouldn't see the dealer again until the next service. I hope !

Thanks to all for the advice you're a knowledgeable lot.

Hello there,

Im having this same problem. Got a booking next friday where the mechanic has agreed to sit in whilst I recreate the noise (this will not be a problem!), but they maintain that they haven't heard of this bulletin. Is there anyway I can point them the right way so that they don't faff around for ages whilst the problem gets worse and worse? Anyone get a copy of that bulletin? Sounds like something confidential.

Wish me luck!

Sax

PS going to Johnson's Honda of Beaconsfield... hope theyre ok!

Update:

After calling the dealer and explaining my circumstances and symptoms, they said that they could simply not advise the repair needed and book me in for it... Fair enough. Even after I asked about the bulletin, they claimed ignorance.

So they agreed that they would get a mechanic to sit in and ride with me and try and diagnose it. When I turn up during my prescious lunch hour for this check, the woman sat me down for 15 mins, returned later saying "Yep, we've heard of this problem, we'll book a repair in for next tues..."

ARGH! Why couldnt they have done that over the phone?! they didnt even look at my car, ***. Am not impressed with them, thats definately a bad start.

end rant.

Problem is meant to be sorted by taking those screws apart and re-greasing etc. I am suspiscious that this will only be temporary, but I guess I have to just trust it'll work!
