Question What caused these marks on my Civ ?

I've had horizontal scratches for a while now, it was before my first service that they first appeared, 2nd service is this Saturday.

They only appear on the rear driver's passenger door.

I had a look after washing last night and if anything the number of lines has got worse.

There's no way we've scraped a wall with the car, I normally park in the middle of nowhere and take the mile walk to the shops

It almost looks as if the spray off of the road has had some heavy duty dirt in it which has just completely scratched the car, if you look at the grey trim also you can see it.

So other than what caused it - how easily is this fixed ?, should I use the touch up stick or involve the pros ? Have I got any case regarding thin paint (would seriously doubt it), there's nothing of a similar nature on the passenger side.

(Before anyone laughs at Pic 2, I'm 6 foot 2, not 2 foot 2 )

That looks scraped to me chum. Sure look at the scuffed plastic trim. You sure you haven't caught a low wall, plant pot or something? Other than that looks like maybe someones bumper caught you, or a kids toy or shopping trolley...

If it's not through to the primer, it will polish out ok. May have to get a proper detailer person to use some compound.

Ask PJS on here for his advice.

How do I know if it's through to the primer ? if I go mad with the Ultra Glym Deep Shine it pretty much disappears (didn't use it last night) what should I use on it ?

Should my dealer be able to give advice on this ?

Thanks for the near instant replies guys.

Something has caught that side of your car - white car/van perhaps?
The length of the scratches is a bit of a giveaway, if you've not brushed up against any bushes, etc.
Scarpered before you came back, and you'd not have been looking for it when you returned, in all likelihood.

Run your fingernail across the marks - does it catch? If only very slightly, then it's probably light scratches and paint transfer, which the likes of AG Super Resin Polish and a German applicator pad would knock out.
If they are a bit deeper, then a local detailer or "chipsaway' person would be able to fill it in and flat it back, and then polish it back up to full lustre again.
The trim is something that can't be hidden or dealt with as easily - except if you were to colour code it with the rest of the car.
You could use a very fine abrasive product to take the roughness out of it, but the texture would be diminished or smoothed completely.

Thanks for the advice PJS, was out giving it some Ultra Deep Shine just there, from a distance of 5 yards it's no longer noticeable. I have the primer pens from Halfords in NHB and have never had the guts to use them, I would say that the scratches are "slight" which is good.

I'll be sure to post the outcome on here (when I get round to making it happen)
