Sorry - not very clear, but 3 in 1 is the brand - same as the 'household oil can' type

IMHO you should use only 100% silicone and not "3 in 1" because the petroleum residues could otherwise damage the plastic

You could well be right there, though it claims to be safe on rubber and vinyl. looking at the Materials Safety Data Sheet, it still contains a lot of petroleum based things

You would be surprised how a carefully applied ( using the spray tube supplied) drop of WD40 will fix a squeak between plastic and plastic.

I dont think he was suggesting 3 in 1 as the spray
3 in 1 make a 100% Silicone spray on its own using the 3 in 1 brand

Will have to get some sillicone spray. I think the noises are coming from the left curtain airbag cover and where the A pillar meets the screen and dashboard.

I HATE rattles, but somehow I can forgive them more in the Civic, its such a nice car to drive.

Can you not get to drive a Honda mechanic around who will be closer and able to diagnose and cure it ?

or

Is that when it stops - getting your dealer involved = sod's law!

You can bet your life if I take it to the dealers they wont hear anything! It will stop completely and then restart once I drive home.

TBH I don't want the dealer to rip the dash apart and cause more rattles, I will try to locate it and then spray it with the sillicone.

Would only use the dealer as a last resort for this type of problem.

In that case you need a patient passenger to help find it.

Trying to find a rattle whilst driving can be a tad risky.

I had a work colleauge lying flat in the back of a Xantia once whilst we tried to find where a tailgate rattle was coming from.

In the end the dealer took off all the interior tailgate trim, sprayed it with silicone and re-assembled it - and it worked.

I shall have to persuade my Mrs to drive the car, I think she's a little nervous as she hasn't tried it yet. I'm sure she will be ok though.

The rattle is more than likely coming from the plastic cowel surrounding the wipers.
Simply squirt a little silicone between the glass and the plastic.

Must admit, I think its a little too loud for it to be that. I will try it out though.

Have you used the silicone?

Correct, but I have now checked, and it does have some petroleum stuff in it, so whilst I would still try it, go carefully. It does say it is safe on metal, rubber, wood, vinyl etc. so I would think its OK

It seems to go when my wife presses on the dash near the window on the passenger side in the corner. Anyone else had this?

Nope

The way that it comes and goes sounds like the dash is moving on corners ?

After a sharp left or right bend (whichever causes it) the dash may shift slightly causing the rattle.

The dash will rattle on straight smooth roads at times, very annoying.

Robbo51, was your dash very rattly, and in the same place?

Bet you were glad the silicone worked!

Yes it will rattle on straight roads once triggered, but it takes the sharp corner to shift the dash just that mm or 2 to get it to start.

These are a nightmare to find and I can understand your reluctance to have the dealer refit the dash.
