I've got the 3in1 silicone spray from Halfords and will spray the windscreen cowl and passenger side dashboard corner where it meets the window.

Will report once done and driven, its too wet to do it today!

In the meantime, if anyone has any advice on where else to spray let me know.

(I would try the windscreen cowl fix with pads but my hands as they are wont enable me to do this myself)

Presumably if none are found, the car is rejected and sent back to the line to have some installed.
No they just got a deaf test driver

Anyone had any success in removing these squeaks and rattles using WD40?
I'm experiencing one in the left side of the dash, somewhere around the steering wheel (maybe even the plastics behind the wheel) and was wondering if giving it a go with WD40 may solve it.
Just worried that it may collect dust in time and make the problem even worse than it is now (now it's not that bad )
Thanks!

Well if it got worse you could always spray it again.

That's an option also, but maybe it wouldn't work the second time around.
Anyway, going to give it a go tomorrow and see if I do more damage.
Thanks.

Just bumping in to let you know that its not only the Swindon models that have rattles. I've the Japanese built saloon 1.8L model and I've had my share as well - 50,000 miles.

Most recent was a clicking/plasticky grinding from the steering wheel. Brought it back and they fixed it - a clip from the hand controls inside the wheel had come loose.

Also had a dash rattle and they fixed it and said it was a clip half loose as well. I'm not entirely convinced it's gone for good though. Think I heard the dirty animal giving a bit of a reminder this evening.

In fact I also had a clicking clutch which they fixed by replacing the master cylinder.

That said, the mechanic did tell me that the build quality was 10 times better than the hatchbacks but I'm not so sure.

In my case I get an individual rattle and bring it back and they fix it. Then I get another rattle and they fix it. Wish they would all come together so I could get them all fixed at once. Feel like a bit of an obsessive going back every few months with a different rattle........but I will keep going back until they have all been fixed.

Funny thing is nobody else can hear them............hell, maybe I am an obsessive after all...............

You'll have to be patient! Not sure if I'll be driving today as I'm not feeling at my best.

Rattles update:- Tried spraying silicone and what a difference! The popping sound from the windscreen has gone completely! Just got to find the one in the passenger door now, although that doesn't annoy me quite so much.

I've only driven 30 miles since the spray, so its early days, but the road that the car normally goes rattle mad on was much much quieter.

If my screen needs the occasional blast of silicone if it rattles again I'm not bothered, it easier than letting the dealer do it.

Could you please tell me what type of silicone you used exaclty?
I don't think I'll find the same brand in my country, but who know, at least I'll know what to look for.
Thanks.
