You don't have to take your foot of the gas before you press "Set". Find a long 50mph road with little traffic and try it. keep the left hand cruise button on all the time and then just press the set button, as Pottsy says, did you have 2 green lights?

sorry for the trouble

I used to. Bad habit from panicky driving lessons. I find the foot rest is really well positioned to give you that feeling of readiness, but not riding/touching the clutch.

Same here, well year and 4 months! It is a bad habit though, and it's just from inexperience really - worried about not getting to the clutch in time or something.

It's getting to the brake in time that's the important one!

Hi Nick. driving with your foot on the clutch pedal is a realy quick way to kill the clutch. BTW I'm glad you got the c/c sorted, I find it really useful on empty motorways to stop myself from going TOO fast.

Yeah stop riding it. Good that you sussed it out, thought it might have been something like that, it comes with time and experience

Question Cruise control sometimes not activating

This maybe something that I've missed in the manual, but this morning, driving into work, there's a couple of instances where I can put the Cruise Control on for a reasonable distance.

This I think was the sequence of events that happened

The first time i pressed the Cruise control button and then the set button and it happily kept me at 60 mph. As I approached a roundabout I cancelled it by pressing the cancel button. (Didn't switch Cruise Control off, just pressed the cancel button)

On the next part of the bypass I went to set the cruise control again by getting up to speed and then pressing the Set button however it wouldn't switch on.

I've had this happen a couple of times but it always happens when I'm not really testing it. Does anybody have any ideas.

the only times that I've had CC 'fail' to set was when I was inadvertantly resting my foot on the clutch pedal

You only have to look hard* at the pedal for the system to think you're pressing it...

* well, not quite, but you certainly don't need to be doing anything more than touching it.

Could be that then as I do tend to rest it there, (even though there's a ruddy great footplate to the left of it) I'll give it a go today when I leave.

I'm not near my car at the moment, but if I've cancelled a cruise speed, I just hit res to reinstate it (the car remembers the last set speed). I've never had it not work, so it could indeed be feet in the way

Must admit I tried that in a random bout of button pressing but it still didn't reset. I think it might be a case of having heavy shoes.

p.s. Nearly been caught out with this option when I first got the car. I slowed down from 70 to 50 and tried to demonstrate the cruise control to my mate. I gave myself and him a shock when i pressed the button and the car took off again

I find that if I've just finished changing gear, it's best to wait for about a second before re-engaging the cruise control. Either I still have the clutch pedal not fully released, or there is a short delay after it has been released, before the cruise control will allow itself to be set.

Hi everyone,

Just got back from work and I think it was down to me resting my foot on the clutch. I set the cruise control and then rested my foot on the pedal and it disengaged.

I think I need to make more use of the foot plate or buy some lighter shoes!

Many thanks for your help everyone, it was just starting to get a bit annoying but nice to know it was just a fault with the operator
