3rd Honda,
Sorry to say that I have to agree with you, there are many things about this car which are poorly implemented, as you mention. It feels as though no product testing has been carried out on these added features, it's more about ticking the box in the brochure. |

Hands free (poor intelligibility),
Must admit that before applying 'the fix' it frustrated the hell out of me, but since inserting the foam (It is a cheap bodge job) it appears to work as well as my old motorola bluetooth earpiece. Voice activation (poor and desperately slow), Never noticed that it was slow or poor, mind you I don't use it much either. Can't see the point of most of the commands when you can just twiddle a knob or look at the display. The only ones that seem to be useful are associated with the sat nav but up to now I have not needed to use them to any extent, the main problem being remembering them. Auto wipers (pretty poor), This is one piece of kit that I consider works well and is always set. Love the way they speed up and slow down depending upon how much rain is coming down Auto lights (too sensitive - on an off like a yo-yo as you go under street lamps etc!), Another bit of kit that I like. I have not experienced the lights going on and off by going under street lights, perhaps there is a sensitivity setting that the dealer can adjust. Fuel filler release (doesn't always work), I have never experienced this although I know it is a pretty common problem and one should never have occurred. Sat nav points of interest (half the UK items not properly covered) Completely agree, after paying so much to have a car with built in sat nav I did expect to have a better implementation of the POI's. Well that's my three pennyworth shared |

Hands free (poor intelligibility),
Must admit that before applying 'the fix' it frustrated the hell out of me, but since inserting the foam (It is a cheap bodge job) it appears to work as well as my old motorola bluetooth earpiece. Mine is certainly much better since doing the mod (thanks to these pages), but still could be (a lot) better. I agree over the memory issues, and don't use it much either. However I still find it slow and innacurate, and suspect its problems are related to the microphone issues above as it is worst I think when at speed (background noise) Auto wipers (pretty poor), This is one piece of kit that I consider works well and is always set. Love the way they speed up and slow down depending upon how much rain is coming down The problem here is that they are relatively insensitive to drizzle and spray, allowing a big accumulation before operating, but come on full for just a few big drops. If I have to keep adjusting the sensitivity, then I might as well not have auto at all. I agree that they do work, just not as well as I'd hoped for. Auto lights (too sensitive - on an off like a yo-yo as you go under street lamps etc!), Another bit of kit that I like. I have not experienced the lights going on and off by going under street lights, perhaps there is a sensitivity setting that the dealer can adjust. Hmm - on this I'll have to disagree - on my 5 mile journey from work, (often around dusk at this time of year) - they have come on - and off again 6 times once! Obvious reasons.....street lamps, overhanging trees, more shaded areas in narrower streets etc. There is insufficient time delay or hysteresis. It even comes on and off again as I go under a bridge. I have had to give up using the auto setting. |

And on the subject of auto wipers - this seems to be common to all auto wipers, it's just the way the sensor works (differently to our eyes).
But my auto lights do have a reasonable amount of hysteresis, and do seem to stay on at dusk, without reverting. But then I find them to be slightly blind (and want to come on too late) so I often just turn them on when the visibility is slightly questionable. |

I must admit that I don't really know about the hysteresis. The lights come on so late as to be totally unusable. I gave up aon auto, and just switch them on when they are needed.

I have my lights on Auto nearly all the time. I like that they just come on in long tunnels and in covered car parks as they should. Not many drivers bother doing so, but they should.
I agree they come on a little late at dusk, but in those situations I just flick the switch 1 position to activate them, not a big deal really. Some people complain that the lights are too sensitive AND come on too late. This is a compromise. If they were less sensitive, they'd come on even later at dusk. if they were more sensitive, they'd be going on and off constantly, which they far from do at the moment. At least if you don't like them in the Civic, you can override them. Some cars with auto lights let you hane no control. As for the wipers, I can't fault them, really. OK, they don't work too well in misty rain. They tend to wipe at the first bit of moisture, or wait too long. In any normal rain (or splash from a puddle!) they seem to work great. I have mine on the 2nd to least sensitive setting and it is almost as thought it reads my mind as to when to wipe. I can't comment on the voice control issues as I am a lowly ES driver |

The voice activation works fine for me. She turns the temp up or down on request. The radio volume likewise. Quite amazing really.
We often wonder what our long departed relatives would make of all the modern technology, if they could come back for a day. Mind boggling really. |

*Bungle is slightly confused and worried that Double-R refers to himself in the third person, and can't work out what disgusted him in the first place*

I used to own the new shape Accord, prior to my Civic and the gadgets that were in the Accord are far superior and more responsive in my Civic. Everything from the Auto-wipers, to the Auto-lights and the Voice activation works just as they should. The only thing I will say is the traffic information it displays on the Sat-Nav screen. It's a great feature to have and I for one have used it several times to get me out of traffic situations, but you certainly can't rely on it. But then again, the information which is on our screens is NOT controlled by Honda themselves; so i can't blame them for it. I love it! |

However, the first service is getting closer, so I'll be dumping a lot of niggles on them then. |

that option is the one that baffles me most to be honest...
to turn the radio up, either let go of the wheel with one hand, and twist the volume knob. Ok, can see why letting go might be an issue... or keep hands on the wheel, press the voice button, and say 'volume up'. No, not aircon off, 'Volume Up'. NO. not radio Long Wave 6, 'VOLUME UP!' poxy flippin bustard (*&*&^*^&^%$££%^ or keep hands on wheel, and use the 'volume up' button on the left hand spoke - just above the voice button... but must admit, it's kinda cool (in a geeky sorta way |

On the EX models there is a volume button on the steering wheel so for us, it's pointless having a button on the steering wheel AND having a voice command for it. Which model do you have? |
