Post List of faults I gave to dealer

Popped down to my dealership yesterday for two reasons:

1) I've had my Civic over 4 months now and have a nice list of faults I want sorting now.

2) Dark nights have made my LOW headlights even more apparent, it is lethal to drive on an unlit road.

So far so good... showed them the list (below), said they'd need to have it for a day and booked me in for next Monday. While booking me in they took my Civic round to the mot bay and sorted the lights out, quick test lastnight and it appears I can see where I'm going again, although need to try a pitch black road to confirm.

My list for next Monday...
  • Paint on rear caused by plastic fouling, gave them thread photos from these forums so they could see it's not just mine
  • Failing left mirror motor, slow to go in/out, creaks and one cold day even failed to move out.
  • Dangerously low headlights - FIXED while waiting
  • Creak from rear, not shocks, will ask about torsion beam someone else mentioned on here
  • Gearbox 2nd to 3rd too notchy
  • Request "official" Honda HFT microphone fix - I'm told this is a replacement mic
Overall, not bad for 4-5 months, nothing major as far as I'm concerned, the car is still a complete joy to drive.

Oh, you'll love this... while waiting for my lights to get adjusted, wandered around the showroom and checked the plastic fouling bumpers on them.
I kindly informed them that their lovely Milano Red model has paint missing on the rear!!!

Good luck getting your list ticked off. I should be getting my creaky rear fixed at the moment, I am promised my car back this pm. I will update my thread with the results.

Really, I don't think they changed mine. Unless someone in Langley is sticking foam over a batch of Mics to send to dealers to swap over. What a way to spend your work experience!

Have you got some idea when you'll get the car back?

Sorry, didn't go round the back myself - actually there seemed a LOT of galaxy grey models around the car park, quite overloaded with them I thought! Oh and a COSMIC GREY in the showroom if anyone is still after a cosmic - don't forget my 50 pound commission though

Add to list for Monday... replace fuel cap with new working design!

I always knew that the ONE and only time I've let the miles remaining get down to as low as 4 it would almost embarass me at the garage!!!

What do you make of this then?...

They've had my car from 8.30am till 5pm tonight...

Paint on rear caused by plastic fouling - "not caused by plastic, has been *caught* by someone/something"

Failing left mirror motor, slow to go in/out, creaks and one cold day even failed to move out - tested and found nothing wrong!

Creak from rear - couldn't find anything.

Gearbox 2nd to 3rd too notchy - apparently nothing wrong with it!

Request "official" Honda HFT microphone fix - they've increased the volume setting.

Fuel fill cap - not heard about that one yet, presume nothing at all done about it.

So... they've had my car ALL day and all that's been done is an increase to the microphone volume, not the official fix....

Took Assistant Manager (Devries Honda) out to my vehicle tonight, showed him the mirrors opening/closing, he could see the left mirror going slower and could hear it struggling to move - said he would order a new one for me... guy who tested this in workshop must be the same muppet that thinks my gearbox is perfect as well then I guess!!!

Discussed the paint issue, going to touch it up, he knows this has happened on a LOT of Civics...

Reminded him that they won't hear the creak from rear unless it is reversed off a kerb at an angle, that was forgotten about - I reiterated the issues on here about that, i.e. glass-roof models, welding points etc....

He's going to call me tomorrow once he's heard from Honda about some of these issues, apparently they have someone monitoring all the faults on HERE a lot of the time.

What do you lot think then? They've had my Civic all day and the ONE and only thing done on this list was the microphone volume which I could have done myself in the diagnostic settings which makes next to NO difference as I've just tried it on the way home...

Oh! I had a 1.8 petrol Civic today and the gearbox was so loose and easy to shift - is there such a difference between petrol and diesel gearboxes or is it just that mine is still way too stiff after 4500 miles??? I asked if I could have a diesel courtesy car next time to compare gearboxes...

That is just ridiculous!!!!

My car is a petrol and the gears play up from time to time as i said before 2nd to 3rd is hard to get in and they can feel notchy and stiff, but with my first civic I was told about 6 times that there wasn't a problem and even when they did experience the fault they said "yeah but it was just the once"! Grrrrrrrr

As for the bumpers you should print the photos off from on here and take them in, its just outrageous Honda CS tried to tell me they hadn't heard of it before.

The problem with intermittent faults is they never seem to find them

Im sorry I truely think that the service departments of most Honda Dealerships are rubbish!

They've got all the photos from that thread on here.

The microphone is NOT intermittent it's just plain crap and needs the fix
The paintwork is NOT intermittent
The faulty mirror motor is NOT intermittent
The gearbox on mine is NOT intermittent it is not nice to change from 2nd to 3rd full stop.
The fuel filler cap is NOT intermittent - it needs changing before it happens again and I'm not lucky enough to get into it and fill up!

The creak from the rear is the ONLY one of the above issues where I expect it to drag on a little as most others have experienced as it only happens when the car has been standing a while and you reverse it down a small kerb at an angle.

The rest of those issues are hardly what you'd call intermittent are they, sorry makes me want to laugh

Oh!! I assumed as they couldnt find anything wrong with it all they were intermittent faults

That makes it even worse, what are you going to do now? How on earth can they say something/someone has damaged your bumpers?

What dealership is it?

As you happen to mention it NO!!!!

Went to collect on Thursday , Had a good look round it before i let them know i was there and collect the keys, there were some lumps in the laquer on the drivers door which would flat out but the top of the door frame looked like it had been knocked and was bent slightly out of shape , so I left it with them to sort.

Rang them today to arrange collection and was told it wasn`t ready, they are waiting for parts to come in.

The rest of the job looks ok, i`m just sick of the mondeo now and want the civic back.

Also on Thursday while waiting for my keys I was talking to the salesman and mentioned the extortionate price of the i-pod kit and roumours of only being available for the 3 door and he told me to log on to a civic forum he knew about, to find more information. i did mention he would find the address on the back of my car.

LOL, actually seen quite a lot of Civics in our area lately, keep watching out for a sticker on the back in case it's yours

Don't think I'll be racing you to name the above dealership in the "good dealer" thread just yet, let's see what progress I get...

Oh... HONDA I know you're reading this, you know the dealership, you can see my list of issues, that was hardly a satisfactory outcome for what I've listed was it

Anyone care to guess whether I received a phone call or not today?

I've been rather nice so far, I *could* have harassed the dealership with all these small individual issues over the past 6 months, but no, I can still drive my car so I decided to give them the above list covering what needs sorting having had the car for this period of time...

Booked in for 11th December for 3 days, want to speak with Asst.service manager first to ensure that I get a 2.2 EX diesel so I can compare gearbox.

Going to run through the list again to ensure we are clear on what requires fixing.

Speak to Andy Price, he seemed very helpful with my paintwork complaints. He gave me a loan car and waivered the insurance charges.

Thanks **, I believe it's Andy that is the Asst.Service Manager I've been dealing with, hence I've asked him to call me before it goes in - I'm also going to write a letter with this official list of faults before it goes in to ensure it's all down in writing as well.
