I have been moving posts here, not because they are about the lack of rear wiper, but because they appear in threads that are not about the rear wiper.

Please try to keep threads on-topic!

Yes but......

The brochure says:-

"This shape also makes it water repellent, so there is no need for a wiper."

...............and I foolishly believed them!!!

Don't try and tell me I'm the only one upset!!!

Mind you if you thrashed up and down the motorway all day long the water would probably blow off the front windscreen too!!!

Charles,

The Civ has the same rear aerodynamics as a normal saloon car. So the window stays mostly dry on the move, but suffers from the same inherent problems that a saloon car suffers (a wet screen when you stop and no rear wiper). It's really no better nor worse than any saloon, but significantly better than a regular Golf-style hatchback.

There's more here:
Lack of rear wiper

Pants! I just wrote a long reply but lost it by accident!

It basuically said that I have had experience driving the Accord and a Lexus IS200 on a reguklar basis, and they both peform quite similarly, in fact I think the civic is better. None of them have rear wipers.

Given the choice, I would keep it as it is, for two reasons. A wiper would look very out of place and ugly on the back window, and there is no place to mount it. Secondly, the aerodynamics are designed to stop sparay and grime getting on the rear window. A wiper this could prevent this and cause a problem with road spray and such collecting on the window.

IMO the car copes very well as is, and poses no problem with visibility. When droplets do collect on the glass, it is easy to just look through anyway. Never caused me any problem.

You wouldn't have liked my Transit I used to drive with its 6"4' X 5" tail lift bolted on the back. You literally could not see passed it, being made of steel plate. The only thing the rear mirror was good for was checking the load.

Wink

I can really sympathise with Charles. During the week I drive a transit, There is no rear wiper on that and I can't see out the back...

Anyway, Charles needs one so that he can see where he is going after ram raiding local banks (how do you think he bought that telly on his other posts).

I am still waiting for my Civic to be delivered so I don't know for myself how bad the rear window is without a wiper. My last car RX-8 did not have a rear wiper and I had no problems as the rain cleared very quickly.

The word most is a term that has not been proved.

The Rain-ex doesn't work until the car is moving!

Moving without full rear view visability is foolish!

Wiping the screen down - my own manual method, works, but I assume that it wears out the Rain-ex that doesn't do its job anyway!

I'm not on my own here.

Ow about a poll?

No poll. Most of us have made our opinions clear already, and the subject is starting to wear thin. This is also off-topic fopr this thread.

Hmmn, you brought the subject of a rear wiper up, and your view on how many people were happy... not Charles.

Also, I don't believe you are yet a moderator and therefore in no position to advise people what to write.

As to the original question... you will soon get used to it amnicholson, really!

Not really, I was talking about the rear vision as a whole, and said most of us are happy with the rear view. Which we are.

The reason I suggested that a poll might not be good is that it has already been stated that this whole rear wiper cr*p has been done to death and really doesn't need much more discussion. Look what happens when it is mentioned!

A poll may be a reasonable idea. Up to this week my journey to and from work has been almost exclusively on dual carriageways at speeds between 50 and 70 mph, at these speeds a rear wiper is not necessary as the aerodynamics and rain x keep the rear screen clear. Starting this week my journey is much shorter on local roads max speed 30 mph (if I'm lucky). To-day was my first day and just my luck drizzle all day. I do now understand what CH is on about, the rear vision was practically nil as I didn't reach a speed at which the aerodynamics come into play.

I'm not moaning as I have driven normal 4 door cars without rear wipers for years, but I do see the 'Rear Wiper' brigades point of view.
